Increasing Sertraline from 100mg to 150mg after 3 years - side effects and how quickly will it work?

My doctor has suggested I increase my Sertraline dose from 100mg to 150mg. I’ve been on 100mg for about 3 years, but I’m starting to feel very anxious and down again.

2 questions really...

1) If there are benefits to the increase, how quickly will It happen?

2) Will I see any major side effects from this increase? I really don’t want to horrible 4 weeks you get one first starting it all over again.

The increase should not be to bad, your body has been getting used to this medication so there should be a good build up at this time. Allow say two to three weeks. Try not to dwell on this increase. I went through a reduction of medications because of my age I take ADs and Opiates etc and had no problems. Sometimes our fears react to a problem that is not there.

I've been taking 150mg of Sertraline and 75mg of Nortriptyline for years and my GP changed my Sertraline dose 4 weeks ago to 200mg and I haven't felt any changes, good or bad. As the other person said your body is now used to this medication and a change of 50mg shouldn't really be felt. I wish you the best and hope that the change helps you.

Hi, I tried Sertraline recently, and gradually increased to 150mg pd. However it did little for my depression and anxiety. I had high hopes since there were few side effects. My consultant has now put me on Mertazapine and I am up to 30mg pd. I am still depressed but my husband says he can see signs of improvement. It's a long haul but my motto is keep pushing for help. It's out there somewhere. Stay safe
