Bipolar specialist U.K. recommendations

Hi everyone!

My father in law is bipolar and has been diagnosed for 30+ years. His psychiatrist recently retired and my mother in law has asked if I can help her find a new one who is a bipolar specialist that fully understands it and those who have the diagnosis.

He has bipolar 1 and it has always been treated as being chemically based. I’m posting on here in the hopes that anyone in the U.K. can share their experiences with helpful psychiatrists that really understood them. (Completely understand that everyone’s experiences will be different but feel it is helpful to have recommendations from others in similar circumstances.)

They have decided to pay out of pocket as the NHS provided doctors psychiatrists aren’t helping at all.

TLDR: looking for psychiatrist recommendations in the U.K. for treating bipolar 1 for my father in law.

Thanks in advance!

Hi what medication is he on now and is he well on it or not ?

You may need to discuss this with your Doctor, we generally deal with Patients that are treated accordingly. Your Doctor will be able to recommend the best way forward when going private.

You need to understand the Medical and Mental Health Specialist do have there own private Clinics. You could if you have insurance check there.

I was once seen by a Specialist who had his nhs work and also clinics in private hospitals. There may be lists on the web you could try.

Talk to your GP first and foremost.
