14 weeks on Sertraline with no improvement...stay or change?

Hi guys so I have been on 100mg of sertraline for GAD for 14 weeks now and am still suffering with insomnia and heightened anxiety. I had a week of feeling completely "normal" and it was great but with a bang the anxiety and edginess came back. I have read such great reviews on Sertraline and really wanted to give them a chance but I'm not sure if I should call it a day now or whether the dosage needs changing. Can anyone relate or give any advice?

As none of us are doctor's we cannot advise on what to do. You really need to go back to your doctor / psychiatrist with how you are feeling and work out a plan with them. I cannot relate as I cannot tolerate Sertraline. What works for one doesn't necessarily work for another.

I am not a doctor either however I do suffer from very bad GAD and I can speak from my experience. 14 weeks should be more than ample time for the medicine to work according to prescribing information. It is possible you need a dose adjustment and/or you may need to add an additional medication. I would get in to see your doctor as soon as possible even if you have to call and get a sooner appointment. Don't give up. It can be a lot of trial and error prior to finding the ideal medication regimen for someone. Good Luck.

Call the doctor. May be time for a dosage change or addition of anti-anxiety meds like clonazepam.

Hello Missrob

I’ve been taking Sertraline for 5 years 200mgs! It worked for a while long time just keeping me at an even level. More recently I have been suffering and a had a nervous breakdown. I discovered that mine is all anxiety which then makes me stressed unable to sleep and depressed.

I am now two weeks into no meds no anxiety and feeling better than I have in years . Self help with the anxiety staying positive and always finding the positive even in a negative-has helped. Anxiety is that voice in your head that keeps you awake questioning everything over and over. Keeping us awake or making us so tired we just sleep.

It’s wondering why that friend didn’t message back, going over abs over scenarios in our heads, worrying what’s going to happen or has already but

You cant change the past so why over think it 🤷🏻‍♀️ Why worry about what may happen wasting time when it hasn’t happened. Live for today and only today. Set your goal lists for the week ahead it’s makes me great even if it is just calling the GP or going shopping .. ticking it off is a positive result you have achieved one or more of your goals and be proud. We all have bad days even the most positive people have them but don’t be disheartened just use that to boost you on abs make you stronger. Don’t come off the meds just bare with them a while longer ( give yourself a goal / timescale ) then call your GP if you haven’t improved. Talk to people it’s helps and remember things will get better 🥰 good luck

Thank you so much Emma. So pleased for you that you are doing well without the meds, that's really great! You sound so positive. At the moment my inner voice just won't quieten and like you say I'm worrying about things that will probably never happen. It's so hard sometimes. Thank you again for replying to my question and I wish you well xx
