Taking depots for schizophrenia.

I'm having depots for schizophrenia. Zuclopenthixol. Im quite fatigued and drowsy.

As an older person, do these effects last longer with depots, or are tablets, better.

Hello Hidden,

I suggest that you speak to your doctor about your medication dose, administration route (? by injection or tablets) and the effects you are experiencing. As an older person (?age) sedation and drowsiness is a concern and you should be closely monitored. We cannot give you specific advice here as we are not medical professionals and do not know your medical history nor prescribe medication.

Best wishes,

Yes

In my case although the depot injection is B12 every twelve weeks I can feel the difference as the vitimin looses effectiveness, the same applies to your medication possibly. If you feel the need to discuss the problem you need to discuss this with your Health Professional. I can tell the difference when the injection has been given as well

Hiya, I just joined this site. I’m on that same medication... I tend to need about 12 hours of sleep a night and I’m generally very sedentary. I’m on 600mg every 4 weeks.

I’ve never tried taking this medication in tablet form but I was on olanzapine. It didn’t really help at all. Maybe that’s my fault for not taking it properly though.

Describing it as drowsiness is interesting to me. I usually refer to the feelings I get as more depressive than anything else. Maybe reframing it would help me though. Thanks for that.

Do you mind me asking what you feel the medication helps you with? I was prescribed it after a fairly big ‘ breakdown’ when I went to hospital. I liked it because it was the first medication that I could actually feel in my system. I mean that I knew it wasn’t a placebo. It helped me relax and it enables me to organise my thoughts. If I didn’t hear voices I think I’d be healthy. That’s how I’d put it. Or maybe I mean that if the voices didn’t interfere I’d be healthy. It sorted me out, just not them.lol.

I have been trying to get into hobbies, I am fascinated by the idea of learning to draw. I have aspergers aswell, so maybe that fascination comes from there, but I struggle to manage to do anything. It feels like I’m being tortured out of enjoying anything. It feels like everything is a fight.

I don’t think life should be difficult, so maybe that kind of thing is where I feel fatigued. When I just decide that they aren’t worth fighting with. Exasperated is how I’d put it.

Nice to find someone on the same medication anyway, I’m here to chat if you want.
