Bad couple of days.

Hello everyone,

I've been feeling down over the last couple of days. Monday was really a really positive day. I played badminton in my lunch time with my work colleagues. I felt invigorated. I started Tuesday really well, clean clothes, started work at a reasonable time, felt fairly positive. Over the course of the day though I became increasingly dis-spirited. Work was very boring and mundane, I think the lack of activity doesn't help. Just sitting at a desk for hours on end, and a boring job at that. Today is exactly the same and I know Thursday will be the same. The only relief is Friday when I know it will finish.

Thanks a lot- I just wanted to express how I feel.

Andy

Hi Humphrey I get how you feel as it was commonplace in my working life to feel exactly like that. I remember once around 25 years ago I woke up with a sense of purpose! I was quite shocked and told a colleague. She just looked at me and said 'Oh dear'. I said 'Yes, I must make sure that doesn't happen again'! We both shared an understanding smile.

The point I am making is that I decided years ago that my life wasn't going to be my job or career, but as long as I was doing a job I didn't mind that much boring though it might be, my focus would be on using it as a means to an end ie making my life more about things outside work and enabling me to have enough money to enjoy them, It seemed to work for me. Maybe it is the same with you? There always has to be compromise somewhere along the line. x

Hello Humphrey, Going to work to a job you hate is no way to live. What would you like to be doing? I was a stay at home Mom and when my youngest was in middle school I went to college. I was 36 and at 40 I started teaching. I loved it and I taught for 30 years . Very happy years. So think about it if you want it badly enough you'll find a way. I also worked part time while going to school to help pay for it. How do you want to spend the next 25 years? If you do nothing you'll be in exactly the same place. Let me know what you think. pye

I did actually try to be a teacher when I left university in 2000. There were opportunities to volunteer and there were also taster courses. I must admit I was put off by the children's behaviour. Half the time in the lesson you are fighting to maintain control. I'm not assertive enough. I was put off by the workload in actually achieving the PGCE. The long hours in the job, the stress, the constant changes in the curriculum. The admin. Teaching could be a fantastic job. Too many NQT's teachers leave within five years.

The only subject I'm really passionate about is History.

Thank you for the reply.

Andy

P.S. Humphrey was my ancestor 1781-1865 :) a baker by profession

Teaching isn't for everyone , I was only suggesting that you find something you enjoy doing and try finding a job in that area.
