Welcome.Four years depressed is an incredibly long spell if it was continuous.

You must have tremendous courage and resilience is all I can say. I've done fairly well myself but to anyone enduring 4 years of depression I can only tip my hat.

I have had 55 years of depression Olderal. Most times it has been under control but it never leaves me completely. I have had to learn to live with it.

Welcome DD nice to meet you. x

Hi hun, I am sorry for the pain you have been having for so long, it sounds like you have had a long battle trying to find relief from these symptoms as well as the other physical pains you have had to endure.

It does seem that if we have suffered depression at some point it will always be part of our makeup and some of those deeper spells can feel like they don't lift at all, that even a little relief can go unnoticed as the bleakness returns all to quickly.

I like to believe that even with knowing this is part of our makeup we can still find happiness and an escape from these spells. It can take a lot of work, but the rewards of course are so great. You sound from your profile that you read and try to do as much as you can to help and I hope you keep looking. Sometimes we need that extra guidance of a trained councillor to step away from our current mindset.

One of my hobbies is music, I stated piano when my youngest daughter wanted to learn and we went through the grades together with the help of a very good teacher, which meant we also had a lot of fun. When circumstances made it feel like my world had fell apart, I could no longer afford lessons. For the next ten years I continued to enjoy playing and could always teach myself new pieces of music as I seem to have a lot of patience when I want to do something 😊 but for those ten years I seemed to stay on at that level unable to ever get any better and sometimes a lot worse. As life would have it I can now return to having a teacher, but I had to try a few before I found the right one for me, the difference is, although I can read music she teaches me how to interpret it, how just a slight adjustment in movement or thought can make a profound difference.

In the same way I am always trying new techniques to overcome depression, sometimes I can feel like I understand but just can't seem to more forward into happiness and then suddenly I come across something that seems to make perfect sense and I move away from under that black cloud.

I'm sorry if as usual I have taken a very long winded way to say what I am trying to say, I do have this tendency 😃, but what I am trying to say is sometimes we can both know and possess the skills to change our thoughts, but it will take that little nudge from the right expert to see things in a different light, our lives themselves will be no different, but how we persevere them will be.

Keep looking is sometimes all we need to keep doing to find ourselves back in the sunshine, so I hope you soon find that little Ray that can change things.

A big welcome to this site, we all might all be a little screwed up a times, but there are some lovely caring people that like hang around on this community. Lots of hugs, Moni x.

..just noticed your post, and, like you, have suffered long-term depression.

It helped significantly to my breakdown 2 years ago resulting in a diagnosis of PTSD. One-to-one counselling helped tremendously, giving me the tools and knowledge to mend myself and actually 'create' a new and more positive, confident person .... eventually...

I see you're local and appear to be of a similar age - if you want to share and support, I'm always happy to help 😊 and receive help
