Yesterday, I went back to my GP and was signed off work for a further 3 x weeks and he changed my medication from Fluxetine to Citalopram (20mg - once a day). Just hope this one works better as the Fluxetine left me totally spaced out most of time.
Started Citalopram today: Yesterday, I... - Mental Health Sup...
Started Citalopram today
Hi Rich that is Prozac isn't it? I couldn't get on with those either and changed to sertraline. I hope you get on better with the new meds. Take care.

Yes you did the right thing - Fluxetine did not work for me I tried it for over one month with no or little effect - but give Citalopram a good month before it kicks in!!
Then you can judge 20mg seems high at ist normally 10mg works with a bit of time
see how you go (plus make sure you get a good brand - ie medication from Asda or Co-op (my local chemist buy's in cheap drugs and I had problems with my medication I did report it back to them but they did not change back to the more expensive brand so I sacked them ha ha.
Good Luck I am sure you will be okay love juelx
20 is just to get into your system as they cant give you high dose straight away, so go back after a month,,, if no better and increase dose. It gave me my life back!!! Tried many many many different drugs before this one, each day you find something little is better,, so slight,,, but over time ,,, huge!! Im on 40-60mg,,,, but couldnt function before, sleep 24 hrs a day... Sooo ill before.
Good luck
Hi!
My partner is suffering really bad with his depression recently. Hes acting irrationally. Im staying strong for him and showing i can be strong enough to support him.
His GP fobbed him off big time.
I was just wondering which medication you're on?
Im trying to get as much help and advice as i can.
Thank you
Hi Daenerys 123, thanks for the message, Sorry for the delay, but I have been busy dealing with a few family problems lately. My problems started in February of this year, and that is when I finally went and spoke to a GP, and after a lengthy chat, he told me I had depression and anxiety as well. For the first 3 x weeks I was on fluoxetine, but that just left me totally spaced out.
When I went back to the GP, I told him about the side effects and he put me on citalopram straight away, and I started them last Friday, so only had a few headaches and a touch of anxiety today, but its early days for me.
With regards to your partner, you really need to find a good GP who will listen to his problems.
I hope this works for you. I know many people that it has helped. It sometimes takes time to find the right medication for you.
I wish you luck youll feel tired at first and they will make you feel a little sick but tht will pass. They will make you feel better soon they have for me just dont forget to take them.
As a long term user of both fluoxetine and citalopram, I'd say stick at it for at least 6 weeks, no matter what the side effects, unless they making you pass out! Your whole body has to be saturated with the chemicals before they'll work effectively every day and too many people give up after a few weeks. The feelings of being able to cope "normally" once the dose is right is worth a million wobbly moments on the way. Talk talk talk to other people who've improved on anti depressants and be determined to keep going- it took you YEARS maybe decades to get this depressed so it's not ALL going to shift in a few days or weeks. It's hard work and YOU can do it. Don't be scared if you need a high dose- I've been on maxed out doses of things to get the effect with every pill I've tried. The main thing was that they worked- for at least several years each. I'm on venlafaxine now and that's still working after 5 years and now on half my initial dose. Drink plenty of water and if you feel a bit odd in the head, have some Omega-6/3 fish oils on a shot of strong fruit juice every morning. Totally fixed my side effects. Good luck!
I am sure it will - give it a month jue1
