Have found out I have vitamin D deficiency, and wonder if that is contributing to my depression, as I have heard it makes you low. Just wondering if anyone else has experience of this and did it improve their mood when they started taking vit d.

Vitamin D deficiency
I had a vit D deficiancy and I felt like I had flu like symptoms and I felt really down. What are your levels, mine was 17
Hi,
Yes, definitely, Vitamin D deficiency is linked to depression and other problems that also link to depression e.g. fibromyalgia so why not ask your GP to put you on a supplement, my GP has just told me that the majority of people in the UK have some shortage of Vit D but if you have symptoms then you can have a double dose - you could buy a much higher dose yourself from Amazon if you want to see whether it helps, for some problems the recommended daily amount is 4,000 (I think it's in mg) whereas my GP prescribes 80mg so the double dose is only 160! I take a Vit D and calcium supplement as well (my GP is happy for me to do that) and find I feel very much better. A very low dose of Citalopram also helps me.

Hi,
I had VitaminD deficiency and was told it was contributing to increased pain levels and low moods. I have to say I am not totally sure how much it helped me but I know it has helped others.
