I have just been given some Citalopram tablets for depression, but I am worried about taking this with my heart medication.

Hello

Your GP should have checked for any contraindications with your heart medication.

What may be a good idea if you go on the NHS Choices web site they have an A-Z of medications with the contraindications listed. If you have problems there have further chat with the GP.

We are always here for support and understanding

I agree with Bob and you could also call NHS Direct and discuss it with the nurse on duty. Suex

Suggest that you talk to your doctor about this, or you could try the pharmacist if you can't face the doctor. Most pharmacies have a quiet room where you can go and discuss things.

As Bob says, GP should have picked the medication taking into account interactions with other medications.

Also, have you looked through the accompanying leaflet to see what it says about potential interactions ... or may be that is where your concern comes from, in which case definitely speak to GP or to Pharmacist.

Thanks everyone. Guess it's back to GP although I don't have a lot of faith. But will try and push for a happy solution.

Hi, thought I would update and say thank you. I went back to the GP and told him I am not happy to take the Citalopram, and told him I have invested in some high quality vitamins and changed my diet somewhat - to no wheat and sugar. He was surprised, as he said half the town is on Citalopram! What is that saying to you?

However, I am feeling much more positive and can even think clearer. I have a feeling that some of this euphoria is due to the fact that I took charge of my own life! Best wishes everyone.

I should be safe but I wouldn't take them together without seeking medical advice first, just incase.
