Hey, guys! I have the following question. About a year ago I got sick with Lichen Sclerosus/BXO. There were white spots on the foreskin and red and white spots on the head of the penis. This Friday I had my foreskin circumcised. Dr. Khan from the London Circumcision Center recommended not using steroid ointment after circumcision and waiting 6 weeks to see if LS has healed or not. Dr. Karl Becker, who is also an expert in the field of LS, recommends starting using steroid ointment 6 days after circumcision to prevent a possible Kebner effect and relapse. I know that there are guys in this group who have been cured by circumcision or are planning to do it for the treatment of LS. In this regard, the question. Did the doctors recommend you to start using steroid ointment almost immediately after circumcision, or did they recommend not using anything after circumcision?

Lichen sclerosus/ BXO
I don't know why did you post this several times. You can still remove the rest.
All I can say: It is not suggested to apply steroid ointment on to open wound. The incision site should heal first.

It happened by accident. Yes, I understand that open wounds do not need to be applied. It is important for me to understand whether it is necessary to apply ointment to the head of the penis and when to start doing it, if necessary
Do you mean this: dermnetnz.org/topics/the-ko...
Have you already tried to wrap your penis to paraffin gauze dressing? It'll prevent the woven gauze stick into dried wound discharge and moist spots on penis head.
My BXO and LS has gone completely following circumcision, without the use of steroid or other creams. I did have a tiny blister on the glans in an area which was particularly bad prior to circumcision but I popped that and it didn't come back. My surgeon (NHS consultant urologist) told me leave it uncovered and to dry out.
Yeah so LS can for some be a lifelong condition.
I did not use any kind of steroidal until long after the circ. (I had another issue also.) Now = basically when I apply the cream (clobetasol) it "calms" the LS down. I can use it for 2 weeks or for up to 2 months to calm the flare-up down. Once the flare up is gone, then I stop using it for ... well indefinitely until I get another flareup - this can be long while. Now I have to admit also that in my most recent flare-up, I used the cream for just 3 days and then stopped. I was fine.
The issue with the steroidal creams is that they tend to thin your skin to some degree. If your skin gets too thin, then that can be an issue.
The other thing you mentioned up above - Koebbler Effect? - if that is what the issue is. You may want to ask your surgeon how common that is. The reason, being that I have been led to understand that it is very rare. And if very rare, then it may not be a factor to weigh in, in your case.
Hello. is your LS expressed in white and red spots or otherwise? do they go away after using a steroid?
Both - white and red. The red is more I think a result of wearing clothes that are tight. When things rub, then it gets aggravated and I can feel a light burning sensation. The white spot is there but it has faded over the time. These are towards the meatus or opening.
Then there is also a part of bunch of skin that is on the glans that is whitish, flat and hardened. Its like tough skin. Apparently this is also LS. This stuff does nothing to me, by way of sensation. It does not hurt or pain or anything. I have rubbed clobetasol over it even though it did not bother me much. Now I just run some Vaseline over it from time to time. I surprisingly find that vaseline also has a calming effect.
Have you tried to remove this white spot surgically: with a laser or something else? or it does not interfere with intimate life? sorry for the personal question.
No problem. Right now I have no intimate life. Haha! But here is the thing. I have read here in this HealthUnlocked forum that over time, the white spots tend to fade. I have noticed that in myself. The white spot has slowly over say 6 months, faded a bit. The spots are often painless also - like a scar.
The place where I have issues are the red spot towards the meatus. That one gets aggravated depending on the clothing I wear. That is the one I will hit with the clobetasol. The other spots usually are quiet.
Going forward, I have discussed with my doc, something called glans resurfacing. Its a surgery where they take a small bit of tissue out from a different part of your body, like the thigh and that put it where the bxo is - after they have removed the bxo. From the little that I have read online, it apparently has good results. My doctor mentioned it to me as something to keep in mind for the future, esp., if the bxo starts giving too many problems. My question to him, however - which I forgot to ask - what is the impact on intimacy? That is important. If the impact is minimal, I might need to think about it in the future.
Using steroids after circumcision with BXO depends upon the severity of BXO.
Steroids can prevent wound healing if you starts early during healing periods.
