The main use of vaseline after a circumcision is to apply it to your penis before wrapping it with a dressing. It stops the dressing sticking to bloow or lymph from the cut and thus allows the dressing to be removed without disturbing any scabs that are part of healing.

Petroleum jelly/paraffin gauze/medical honey ointment/antibiotic ointment forms a protective layer on incision site. That layer is a part of the moist wound healing.

I used it a couple of times in the first three weeks of healing. There were a couple of days early on where the glans was really itchy and dry so I applied it then just get some relief. It also acted as a bit of a barrier with sensitivity issues.

I am on 8 days now - not putting on Vaseline as I have not had the need to tbh - I plan to use bio oil around the 4 week mark when most or all of the stiches might have fallen off - so I guess use some oil Rather than Vaseline on your mr P ;)

Vaseline is old school approach. A lot of people don’t recommend it now days because it’s hard to clean off and it’s mineral oil based which is not the best thing for skin. For dry skin gently use some natural oils like coconut oil. It will keep the skin from drying and feeling irritated - which is a natural process once the glans are bared up permanently.

Well, if your wound is already healed, I'd rather apply something lighter like unrefined coconut oil or emollient cream with ceramide than smudgy vaseline.

I've used it. It definitely has helped me with dryness. It won't hurt to try it. I however have a condition called Lichen Sclerosis which is like patches of dry skin. So using emollients help. I get almost instant relief.

Bio oil then cocoa butter is my recommendation.

My doctor suggested use of triple antibiotic ointment for the post-op, I guess as a 2-in-1, to lubricate the stitch area the way vaseline does, and also a replacement for salt soak/bath of the P to keep it clean of germs.

My Dr. recommended Vaseline as I did not have stitches, mine was closed over with glue. now that the glue has healed the opening I use polysporin just on the underside where its a little red.
