Diabetic medication a catalyst to phimosis and balanitis problems?

I have noticed that a trend in phimosis and balanitis cases are that men are diabetic. I believe it has played a major role in my phimosis.

My girlfriend was telling me about a previous boyfriend's issue with phimosis. He was taking Invokana and his doctors took him off of it. Did this medication spur his phimosis?

I have been on Metformin (since age 32). Later on I stopped taking that and switched to Janumet (at age 38), and Glimepiride (age 36). My case of phimosis actually started when I was 14. I don't think in my case the medication caused the phimosis, but rather the condition of diabetes did.

I have always been overweight varying from 30-50 lbs since age 11. This may be a factor too.

Has anyone on this forum had/have phimosis without diabetes?

I trialled a different form of that drug and I got balanitis that stopped when I stopped the drug. That family of drugs works by the glucose in your blood being filtered out by the kidneys and excreted out in your urine rather than being recirculated. Depending on your carbohydrate intake, that can make your urine very sweet and a breeding ground for infections such as balanitis. If you have good control of your blood sugars then diabetes is far less likely to lead to complications. Losing weight is likely to promote healthy blood glucose levels.
