In need of some immediate advice and help on what to do in regards to a stitch located on the right side of my penis that is now stuck.. Went to bed last night secured in my underwear, woke up this morning, tried to go to the bathroom, was in tremendous pain as soon as I tried taking my underwear off. Idk what to do to get the stitch unstuck. Plus, there is like 2 spots of blood in my underwear in relation to said stitch... I’ve been soaking the area with glycerin for about 30-40 minutes with my underwear still on and I’m afraid to do anything... If I try picking my underwear up off of the stitch, it snags and is extremely painful.. I seriously don’t know what to do. Please help. I’m freaking out

This is a good reason why it is desirable to keep the wound covered until the stitches are out. You may find it necessary to cut the stitch to separate it from your underwear, or soaking in a bath may separate the two.

Well I mean; wtf should I dooo?????

Doctor told me there was no reason to continue to bandage the wound and/or stitches

I still have it soaking in glycerin; it’s permeating through my underwear but I seriously don’t know what way to do this is best

Whilst in general there is no reason to keep the wound and stitches covered, it is better to have just a light wrap of gauze (with vaseline on the wound) to keep them from getting caught in underwear. Again, the type of undrwear can affect whether they may trap stiches or not.

You would benefit from reading the medically approved supplementary advice on Post-Op Care at: circinfo.com/post-op_care/c...

Are you alone? Could someone not help to release the stitch? If not you may need to try to get clothes on and go to the emergency department.

My parents are home and they could possibly do it. But idk how they would do it?

And that’s what I’m scared of, I don’t want to have to go to the emergency department

And how would they cut the stitch or even access it

I cut my underwear on both sides, kind of have a tarzan pouch right now. Glycerin still soaking.

You would either have to gently pull the underwear down so that they can see the stitch and try to snip the stitch or underwear to release the stitch. Or if you have already cut your underwear cut around so that only a small piece is in the stitch and again cut the stitch or underwear to release the stitch.

Ok well I’ll have to try that soon. Need my mom to get back from running errands. As long as they’ll be able to see the stitch they should be able to help me out.... It was just outrageously painful to lift my underwear earlier.

I cut the underwear basically in half, it’s almost like I’m wearing a thong on the front side, so maybe if they cut underneath by my testicles so that it may be easier to access the stitch up top bc it’s on the right side of my tip where it’s stuck

in reply to map2352

Maybe better not wearing underwear in bed until the stitches are gone. You could try Vaseline to prevent the stitches from catching.

I put a SHITLOAD of Polysporin on the incision and stitches last night to counteract it and it still caught on. Also put vaseline on top of it..

I was going to sleep without underwear again but I figured I should give it a try because my doctor said to walk around and sleep with nothing protecting the stitches etc. I usually sleep naked as it is so I think I’ll continue that trend from here on out

in reply to map2352

You should take your doctors advice and leave it uncovered for the moment.

You misunderstood. He wants me to wear underwear with the stitches exposed with nothing covering it when I’m up and walking and stuff.. But then it’s not easy to prevent it from snagging. He didn’t give me any specific instructions for bed, I’ve been sleeping with no underwear since the bandage came off except for last night.. when this happened

Ok sorry I miss understood.

Well hope you sorted. My son had similar issue a while back, we sat him in a warm bath and let it soak until it came loose. Vaseline on wound should prevent sticking. I used a melonin dressing, which has a non stick shiny side, inside my pants.

I appreciate the advice however I was told to steer clear of tub baths by my surgeon. I’ve been thinking about putting a warm wet towel on there and letting it soak in and see if it comes loose but I’m still so scared.

That crazy, just shows there is no real advice out there. I was advised to take short shallow warm salt baths from day 3. The damp cloth may help, just don't panic and try and pull it. When you free try that dressing, I used this and wore tight fitting underwear to reduce movement.Good luck

There really isn’t. I’m so panicked right now; I’m in mild pain. I have to pee but can’t because I can’t take my underwear off...

From what you say not much of your underwear left so just sit on the pan and go.Gently release, don't force yourself. The urine may help to release stich.

Hopefully the damp cloth helps or the glycerin helps eventually. Otherwise I’m going to have to have someone I know that’s a nurse come over my house or have paramedics come or something..

Yup there really isnt any solid advice for some of these things. For instance I was told by the people who did my circumcision to wash with only water and no salt but many people including my friend who had his done, as well as my countries department of health website says i should use salt

in reply to map2352

You could get your mum to ask the chemist if they have anything to put on that won’t stick to the stitches or wound before putting your underwear on.

Yeah maybe I guess. My major concern is to get this fucking thing unhooked so I can actually properly move around....

I mean a last resort would be to go to the emergency room but I don’t want to do that. And like I mentioned earlier the last thing I want to do is try pulling it away from my underwear and risk tearing the wound or ripping the stitch out and fucking stuff up

Just wanted to post an update: After about 8 hours of being petrified to move, petrified to attempt anything, or make any effort to do something to free the stitch; as well as about a half a bottle of Glycerin.... The stitch finally came loose and my underwear came off pain free! I’m so relieved and so thankful for all of your guys’ tips today. It means a ton to me. This is a grueling process and I’m almost 2 weeks in, so the worst of it all is nearly gone. Thank god for that! Much love, gents ;)

Good news.

If you’re still getting spots of blood then Jaglad’s suggestion of using Melolin low adherence dressing pads (Google it) is the way to go. They’re sold in most pharmacies and all you need to do is loosely wrap one around like a tube and hold it in place with Micropore surgical tape. The Micropore tape could perhaps even be used to loosely wrap and protect the stitches and be left in place for as long as needed.

After nine days your wound should be mostly sealed so it should be ok to take a bath as the bacteria from elsewhere on your body won’t enter the wound. Also, if your stitches have trailing ends then they can be trimmed if it helps.

Good stuff Man as the guys have suggested if you still have some weeping of the wound you should still use some dressing Melolin non adhering and warped with some gauze dressing that will stretch. Also if stitch end are sticking out and brittle you can trim the end of them after 9 day's it should be fine to shower or Bath you could use some salted water in a bowl to help prevent infection using a hairdryer afterwards. Things should really start improving for you after 2 weeks. All the best.

My doctor advised me to put a thin non sticky plastic wrap around the junk when wearing undies. It will prevent sticking and agitation.

I had a similar but not exactly the same situation. I woke up and a strand from my underwear was wrapped around the head of my penis, between the head and the stitches and it pained when I moved. I took a scissor and cut the strand but left a long piece of it still attached to my penis. When I went to wash myself I let my penis soak and began to unwrap it, the strand was soft and easily come out with no pain. But then again, my experience was a strand of material from my underwear, you sound like it's the stitches itself so i can't say much more than sharing my own experience.
