Hi all, I’ve been prescribed venlafaxine today. What are everyone’s thoughts on this please? Has it helped to calm down and how long before the medication actually started to work. Thankyou.

Hi there. I've been on venlafaxine for about 14 years now. However, I have anxiety disorder. It's worked great until about a year and a half ago. Not sure what happened, but I started having panic and anxiety attacks again. I had a feeling I was in menopause and thought that maybe my hormones really dropped. I started hrt about a year ago, as well as increasing my venlafaxine. I feel a bit better, but want to see if I can make changes with my hrt and see if it improves more. As far as how long it takes for the venlafaxine to be effective, it could take 4 to 6 weeks before you feel the full effects. I hope it works out well for you.

Hi, thank you very much for your reply. I’ve just taken my first dose yesterday and hopefully this medication works because I feel I can’t cope with the anxiety, as it’s relentless. When I took flouxetine a few years ago it worked fine then but because my hormones have fluctuated so drastically in reaching peri menapause it made no difference. I hop that you get everything sorted out and take care. X

Hi,

Venlafaxine is from of a group of antidepressants It’s used to treat depression and sometimes anxiety and panic attacks. It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks for venlafaxine to work fully, although you should start to feel better after 1 to 2 weeks.

Have they not discussed trying hormones as that would be the best way to stop anxiety quicker? I had horrific anxiety and panic attacks before I got the hrt balance right. I don’t find antidepressants effective for hormonal issues but that’s just my person experience.

Good luck
