week 2 Venlafaxine

Hi, I’m on week 2 of venlafaxine and I’m still feeling terrible. I can’t sleep and my appetite has gone. I force myself to eat something because otherwise I start shaking. My question is how much longer will it take for be to feel a little better and these side affects to ease a bit please? Sleeping tablets don’t work either and I have terrible intrusive thoughts and headaches and anxiety too. I’d greatly appreciate the thoughts of anyone who has been through this and if it’ll get better.

many thanks

Hi BjAli, when I try any SSRI or SSNI type drug to relieve my anxiety, it makes it much worse. I think venlaxafine is a SSNI. I've taken a low dose of amitriptyline for pelvic pain and anxiety and it didn't make my anxiety worse and seemed to help some but the side effects of constipation and weight gain were too much so I stopped it. I'm not sure what you're struggling with but it takes a lot of trial and error to figure out what medication works best. I've given up on all meds and I'm just trying to act like I want to feel and do things that give me joy. Even though I'm in pain, I just push through and hope that my body will figure out things are good and relax.

Hi, Thankyou very much to your reply. This is the 3rd medication I’ve tried and am hoping it gives me some relief. I’m also on HRT but nothing seems to have worked yet. I’m at the end of my tether and don’t think I can cope much longer. I’m just hoping for some relief and am thinking to ask the doctor if he can give me some diazepam to take the edge of the anxiety. Many thanks

Hi BjAli I am suffering the same I am on other groups and they mentioned Propranolol for anxiety it is a beta blocker and not addictive like Diazepam. I take it as and when needed it does help with no side effects hope this helps and you feel better soon.

Thankyou very much for your reply, I actually had a previous prescription of propanol and after seeing your reply this morning I took one and it helped me. I’d started getting palpitations with the venlafaxine but today I feel calmer. You’ve been a godsend to me, so thank you very much. I’m going to reduce the venlafaxine and try something else, maybe add another anti depressant with it. Do you have any recommendations that have worked in your experience please? Huge hugs to you. X

I'm so happy the Propranolol has helped you I can recommend Citalopram or Sertraline they are both good. I am taking Sertraline 50mg at the moment. So happy to help sending love and hugs. X
