Rectocele anyone?

I am looking for other women's experiences regarding a rectocele? I was diagnosed around 25 years ago but really had no symptoms until recently. Now I have a feeling of pressure in my rectum most of the time and it's very uncomfortable. I was wondering what measures others have taken ... an operation or pessary and were you happy with the results. I'm using estriol cream for vaginal health, but I started forgetting to use it and then ran out so wasn't getting the most out of it. I think it has weakened my vaginal wall and made the rectocele worse. To make matters worse, I also have a yeast and bladder infection. Years ago I also had a fibroid and am now thinking I need to see a gynacologist to check that out. I basically feel bloated and uncomfortable.

Has anybody found that losing weight and Kegel exercises helped?

Thank you.

Hi LadyNZ, I recommend you not ignore these symptoms! Make sure you get the yeast and bladder infections treated if you haven't already.

Here are some suggested next steps based on my own stage 2 rectocele diagnosis:

Find a urogynecologist, a specialist in this area. I went undiagnosed for rectocele for a long time it appears, and when I finally found out, it has now advanced to stage 2, where the rectocele protrudes from the body.

My understanding is that estradiol cream strengthens the tissues, I have seen positive changes in a short period.

I was fitted for a pessary but it is so painful to remove daily that I am going back for another fitting, there are multiple types and I'm interested in an inflatable type.

Request to go to a physical therapist who is trained in women's pelvic health, this has also had positive effects for me. It includes Kegels but also other exercises to support the entire pelvic floor. There are a lot of muscles in the area that support each other and the regular feedback of your form while doing the exercises, the support, etc are very helpful.

When/if the rectocele advances further, you will need surgery, I am waiting for this so I can get back to my life! It sounds like you may have time to reverse yours.
