🙂 It is likely that you are in Perimenopause …this is the stage leading up to Menopause. Menopause is reached when someone hasn’t had a period for a year.

🙂Your GP will be able to give you advice.

If a hysterectomy leaves 1 or both of your ovaries intact, there's a chance that you'll experience the menopause sooner than you would have if you did not have a hysterectomy.

Although your hormone levels decrease after the menopause, your ovaries continue producing testosterone for up to 20 years.

Testosterone is a hormone that plays an important part in stimulating sexual desire and sexual pleasure.

Your ovaries also continue to produce small amounts of the hormone oestrogen after the menopause.

It's a lack of oestrogen that causes menopausal symptoms such as:

hot flushes

depression

vaginal dryness

sleep problems (insomnia)

fatigue

night sweats

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is usually used to help with menopausal symptoms that occur after a hysterectomy.

Thanks for your reply, the thing is that I haven’t had any periods since I had my histerectomy in 2007, so would this still be perimenapause even after this length of time

🤔 You won’t have had a period because your uterus was removed but..your ovaries will still have being maintaining a ‘cycle’ of sorts..

🤔 If menopausal symptoms are now bothering you..make an appointment with your GP to get a thorough explanation of whether you are experiencing Perimenopause ..and ask how will you know you’ve reached Menopause when you aren’t actually having periods.

Sounds very much like it. Have a word with your GP/nurse but your age seems to explain your symptoms.

Probably you are approaching menopause. I have these sweats and hot flushes, starting at 34 !! Now at 39, hot flushes are intolerable😭

You have had them for 5 years! How do you cope? Thanks for the reply

Actually I had them intermittently. First time I was too young to think of menopause, so I was tested for other causes like infections and blood diseases and all was clear, but I was extremely anxious from the night sweats themselves, the lack of sleep and the thought that they may be caused by cancer. At that time I had a lot of sick leaves from work and could barely function in my daily life. Eventually they went away on their own after about 3 months. They didn't come back until October 2022, they were worse than the previous ones, I couldn't sleep for weeks and was so exhausted all the time from sleep loss and anxious and depressed from the thought of early menopause at my age (then 38).When I look back, I consider these night sweats the worst thing that happened to me.They started to get less frequent and went away after 2-3 months.Again, in mid August 2023, they came back with more daytime hot flushes than night sweats. They are really terrible.I can't actually cope anymore.Sometimes I can't even go the bathroom so as not to get a hot flush.I went to 2 gynecologists and had blood tests for hormones, repeated twice with normal results so they say I'm not yet menopausal (also I am still having periods though not so regular). No one mentioned hormone therapy and I don't know if I should ask for it or no. I have no answers so far. I hope the hot flushes just disappear on their own after some time, as they did previously.

Not what you're looking for?
