Hello I am 2 years after my last period and I just wondered if the big drop in oestrogen would have happened recently or if it would have been a couple of years ago.
I have a history of depression and anxiety although was very well mentally in peri menopause. Have had a recent relapse and just wondered if might be any link. (Although as I say the mh issues go back way before menopause.)
Thanks

I am not sure there’s one big drop? I think people are all different and for some/most? It’s a gradual decline.
I think the myth of big drop comes from the ages hormones are measured at. Yes, there is a big drop from age 30 to 35 (or 50 to 55) but if you measure it at 31, 32, 33, 34 then it will be much more gradual.
From what I’ve read the biggest drop comes after a total hysterectomy with removal of the ovaries - like myself. Apparently the ovaries continue to secrete small amount of oestrogen into old age and you are better with your ovaries than without as they do help. I’ve developed health problems since my ovaries were removed- I’m 63 and had them removed at age 59. I’ve developed arthritis ear problems dry eye and joint and leg pain. I’ve not received HRT.
An estrogen test can measure your levels of estrone (E1), estradiol (E2) or estriol (E3). Your provider will do a simple blood draw and send it to a lab for analysis.
