Progress made starting HRT

Hi

Today a nurse has put me on HRT, Estradiol 0.06% gel and Utrogestan 100mg capsules.

To be honest, I’m shocked, as the previous nurse I had a telephone conversation with was obsessed with getting my bloods done, and as the keys words were not mentioned by me as ‘no periods’, and ‘hot sweats’, I could see I was getting no where.

She also didn’t listen to me on the call, as I mentioned bloating amongst my long list, and told her I am gluten intolerant, and don’t have any gluten at all.

However, a coeliac test was popped on the the mix too.

She was quite abrupt and cut me mid conversation when reading my list of symptoms.

Anyway, I went for bloods and they came back normal, which I expected because everyone has said blood during peri menopause is a waste of time.

In fact, the day I went for bloods, Louise Newton was on the programme This Morning, with a phone in and stating peri menopause bloods are a waste of time all the calls on peri menopause told the same story bloods normal, doctor dismissed the start of menopause.

With this in mind, I braced myself for next appointment to discuss my blood results, thought another negative call.

Luckily for me, the first nurse was on holiday, but, I got a totally different attitude and an understanding human being, why, well she is a similar age and experiencing everything I was. She said I’m not going to even look at your bloods as it’s a waste of time.

Well you could of knocked me over with a feather. I was getting very anxious prior to the call. As I thought I would have a battle on my hands, she did say others in her practice only go by bloods, but she is now experiencing what others are too.

I’m still keeping my appointment at the Newton Clinic (booked this based on 1st call) as I still want guidance and support as although the nurse was very good I felt rushed.

My question is, and I asked the nurse this, the Utrogestan capsules, will they make me feel like a zombie upon waking up in the morning? Like wolley headed?

I was once fobbed off with anti depressants by a GP, when in fact it was thyroid issues. I only took them for two days as felt like a zombie.

Any advice on this and what time you take them so I feel normal in the morning would be greatly appreciated.

I understand how I have to take them as in the 28 day cycle (she had to explain this to me several times, I got it finally)

I’ve got terrible bloating and thrush at thr moment, but read those tablets can cause bloating.

Any experience on the tablet would be greatly appreciated, what to expect, so I’m not so fearful, I’m desperate to feel better, but nervous at the same time.

Best wishes & thanks you.

Hi. The Utrogestan certainly don’t make you feel like a zombie! They are a mild sedative & help you sleep. I’ve been on it since November last year & experienced bloating in the beginning but it passed fairly quickly. Good luck. I’m sure you won’t regret it. 😊

Hi Wales99

Thank you so much for your reply and reassurance.

I’m looking forward to sleeping without broken sleep and night sweats, and fingers crossed my bladder issues are resolved too.

Best wishes

Well all of those issues have stopped with me. I have chopped & changed my oestrogen quite a lot so I think that’s still settling down but my goodness I wish I’d gone on it years ago. Keep us posted 😊.

I use utrogestan capsules but have one every second day vaginally. They are licensed for this, but not in UK, I'm in UK and my GP agreed this was fine. I did this incase they upset my temperamental stomach!
