I am hypothyroid and used to checking my own blood test results and trying to adjust treatments to optimise hormone levels.
I am post menopausal, have been taking HRT (oestrogel/utrogestone) for a month and just done a blood test to check on how it is going and impact on my thyroid.
I can't seem to find guidelines on optimal levels of sex hormones, like I can for thyroid, does anyone know what these are or where to find them? What are we aiming for?
I realise often people take HRT to treat acute symptoms like hot flushes so it is easy to tell if the treatment is working or not, but I am taking it for long term benefits ( bone health) so it is not so easy to appraise.
Thanks

The aim of oestrogen replacement should be to achieve blood levels, which correspond to those of the early follicular phase in pre-menopausal women. Indeed, blood levels of estradiol associated with the standard dose of HRT (1 mg of oral estradiol or 50 mcg estradiol patch) are between 150-370 pmol/L.
Does that mean these levels are the optimal ones to make people feel better if their Estradiol levels are in this range, or just what has been produced on that particular dose of those particular routes? What about other dosages, routes (eg gel) and other hormones than Estradiol?
Or do we not know that?
Just interested because optimal ranges are easy to find for thyroid but I struggled to find the sex hormone equivalent, so not quite sure what I am aiming for.
Maybe HRT users dont need to be as particular as thyroid sufferers?
🤔 I would think that the levels given are what is specifically aimed for to achieve a positive outcome. You could find discussions relating to HRT on ThyroidUK.
