Anyone else been lead to believe for almost a year that they'd suffered from severe Viral Meningitis, only to be told by Neurologist that is was infact Encephilitis or to be more precise Meningoencephilitis (Meningitis and encephilitis together)?

That's very rare, if you had that your lucky to be alive as it can kill you within 14 days if left untreated, how did they cure you?

I was also diagnosed with vm... I was told to go home & rest..... I did & I got so ill I went to A&E, I look back now and wonder how I managed it..... I was slurring my words, balance was off I was like a zombie. I was asked if I had been drinking! My head felt like it was goin to burst the list goes on.. I failed some tests balance etc and was told labrinthitus I was sent home....which I did & I cam only describe the next year or so as torture, i had a headache that didn't go for 3 odd years.... I was left with lots of problems.. I eventually after sometime was referred to neuro who said he believed I had encephilitis ( hsv)

I'm still unwell to this day, it has knocked me for 6!

I'm havin alot of ear pressure at the mo, my ears were damaged due to the illness, my sinuses damaged as I was told when I had the initial scan it had sinusitis only to n told by neuro that's where the virus sits when illness occurs. So much other stuff i have ti deal with daily, yes im lucky to b alive but i feel in existing not living....One big c--k up to b honest from the onset of my illness.

Just try to stay positive...

I think I'm struggling with that today

Hello Summer I had menoencephalitis, left with balance problems and memory issues, I was 35 when I contracted this, I'm now 61 and still suffer with debilating headaches, I know how you feel it's an illness you can't see, I also had ear problems and have since been getting labrynthitis unfortunately it's quite common for us. Because of the disease sits ear nose and throat, I infected myself catching strep throat infections 4times in a 6 month period, in Hospital for several months, and an out patient for 2 years, I had a brilliant consultant who recommended CRANIAL Osteopathy, it's not a cure but it really helps rebalance and headaches. I'm on Diazepam for muscle spasms, Morphine (mst) slow release for the pain, drink plenty water because the spine dries out quickly which intensifies the headaches. I'm also on low dose anti depressants, good and bad days, one day at a time, I did return to work after 5 years and took early retirement 5/6 years ago. I hope this has let you know that you aren't alone. All the best, Anita
