I was back at work within about 5 weeks but when I saw my consultant around 6 weeks after that, he was surprised to hear that. He said it had been so severe, he expected me to be still off for some time (beyond 3 months after the illness).

Thank you all for your responses. This is the 2nd time I've had it but the 1st time was much more severe. It has been 4 weeks since I've had it this time. I went back to work 1/2 days after 2 weeks but came home exhausted. It seems like I'll feel really good one day and the next I don't feel like getting out of bed.

This is now my third time...first time it took at least six weeks to walk around still in pain though, then week later got it again although I was more aware than the first not sure why I just felt I remember more second time around.. Then three months and back to work (so in total I was off from beginning of April to last week in July ). Broke up for seven weeks as work in school.. Back to work one week one day started half way through first week really rough and struggling I just thought it's due to me being unuse to working full days went doctor said you need to go a/e straight away went and was diagnosed again with vm... So now off work again this time it's unpaid....just my luck

So you can't really say how long really xx but hope your ok soon...

Kel80...think I responded to a question you posted as I too work in a school....am so sorry to hear you are ill again..am not sure why you are unpaid unless now it's more than 6months you have been off...have you checked with HR/union rep?

I had VM jan 2011 and went back full time in sept 2011 as had phased return in July. It took until jan '12 for me to feel myself..although still struggle when tired and memory not the same. I still get headaches/migraines especially when tired, loud noise, bright lights so school is a challenging place to be in, as you well know, even after all this time.

Did you give yourself enough time to fully recover?? You must be kind to yourself and take extra time..when you feel well, give yourself another fortnight at least before a 3-4 week phased return.

I would also recommend you carry bacterial hand gel at all times!!!

Wish you a complete recovery. X

Now 5 months. Constantly tired and sleeping, I had vertigo prior to my VM, however now even worse. 2 weeks ago I started getting out of breath, just from walking 1/2 block which I never had before. I really dont know how long this lasts, but I know for sure for me it has now been 5 months and feel like Im not even close to getting better

this July 6th will be one year for me since VM diagnosis. I had my 3rd LP on May 30th because it felt like symptoms were coming back. Still very fatigued and headaches/neck pain are still around. They found 19 white blood cells in my initial LP in the emergency room here in Arizona on 7-6-13 and my neurologist I am seeing says that is a lot. One thing the other folks are saying on this website is give yourself plenty of time to heal up and rest. I went back to work way too early and I think I am paying the consequences for it now. Everyone one is different in their recovery time and don't let this get you depressed if you can help it. Your body needs you to fight for it. There are some great posts on this website from folks who have had it very bad and it gives you insight that you are not alone in your recovery. Very best of luck to you!
