Flying after viral meningitis
Hi I doubt there is a medical reason for not flying, however it will be more a case of you feeling well enough for your trip.
Ive been admitted for 2nd time this year (currently in hospital now) . After my 1st admission I took quite a while to recover as I couldn’t stand noise/busy places/things I didn’t know etc
But I guess only you will know how you feel.
I’m due a weekend away in about 4 weeks time and will be flying.
Good luck hope you recover well x
Hi Nicola, I flew about a month after VM earlier this year, but to be honest I wasn’t well enough and was totally exhausted for the duration of the holiday & I think this hampered my recovery. Depends how you feel yourself of course, but I would say don’t underestimate the impact of VM.
Get well soon 👍
I flew long haul 6 weeks after VM and the flight itself was fine but I was still very weak, tired and suffering with nausea and headaches at that time and wouldn’t recommend travelling unless you are really feeling well enough. It can take many weeks to months to get over VM and rest is key. Wishing you a good recovery.
Sending recovery wishes your way. I wouldnt want to travel so quickly myself but do what is right for you.
It's likely this would be a big mistake as it would hamper your recovery which can months and months. Sorry I know it's not what you want to hear. I had a relaxing break planned just a trip to the local coast for a week 3wks after I got meningitis. Whilst I was well enough to go for ththe s latter half of the week I relapsed the day I returned, nightmare head the lot. I was very upset to learn at that point how long recovery can take but have accepted that now in my 4month having been barely out of the house and able to do little.
Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones who recovers quickly! Listen to your body and don't make yourself do anything it tells you not capable of as you'll pay for it.
All the best.
