I just received my neuropsychology report and it states I had meningoencephalitis. I'm a bit confused but his as the entire time I was in hospital in Ireland and abroad I was told I had bacterial meningitis (meningococcal) . I can't find much info on meningoencephalitis.
Can anyone provide an explanation as to what it is?

Hi Innis, sorry to hear you've been so unwell. Regardless of the cause of meningitis (bacterial or viral ) meningioencephalitis is more serious than meningitis alone, meningioencephalitis means a combination of meningitis (inflammation of the meninges(which surround the brain) & encephalitis (inflammation of the brain itself). I had meningioencephalitis 6years ago & was confused as to what it meant, as initially i though it was meningitis. I now volunteer for meningitis now and The Encephalitis society so have learnt a great deal about both conditions and their effects. As you are on a meningitis now forum you probably have researched all about meningitis, but please look up the Encephalitis society website (encephalitis.info ) they have loads of information and literature they can send out if you phone them, they are really helpful & you can ask to speak to a guy called Jon Ainley on the helpline who can explain things to you & answer any questions.

Innis, I had meningoencephilitis 2 years ago. The doctor explaned it to my husband as having meningitis and encephilitis at the same time . You can get a little info from the Mayo Clinic online. I was in the hospital 62 days and on a ventalator 6 days . Surviving was day to day. I am still recovering. No stamina or energy at all. I am so sorry you had to experience this horrible illness too.
