It is a scary thing that you are going through. I had bacterial meningitis in 2011. It's been a hard road to travel, but it is what it is. This is a horrible disease, and I can't imagine what you are feeling. But, I am here if you want to chat. I am still disabled from my bout with it, so I have more time than some. Anyways, you will get through this. You have to. It's just a question of whether your partner will come out of the comma. It's hard to wait and that is all you can do. A journal may help you express the thoughts that you are not wanting to share with others. Your hopes and fears. Just a suggestion to think about.

Yes, I survived it too, after also being in a coma. Talk to your friend. You may think he can`t hear you and I know its hard but I definitely remember music and the voice of my nurse. It is a very long, slow, tough healing process and I have changed in many ways and have permanent memory issues but I am working again now and keeping a family together.

It can be beaten so put your faith in the NHS and I wish you loads of luck x

So sorry to hear this. There are complications that can occur when fighting bacterial meningitis (BM). Brain swelling and/or aneurisms can cause permanent brain damage. Have the Drs done a CT scan lately? I have heard lots of stories on the net of people waking from their BM comas and leading a fairly normal life. So please remain positive for your partner. The doctors in ICU can withhold information, sometimes inadvertently, so make sure you are in constant contact with the Drs and ask questions. The more information you have the more you will understand your partners progress. I can't stress enough, keep asking the drs questions, this will help you. Fingers crossed and try to stay strong x
