Hi Dina

Have just read your story, thanks for sharing it. I agree - do not ignore your symptoms. I had Listeria Meningitis/ encephalitis which started in Feb this year. Similar to yourself it was the Listeria infection which went to my brain & caused the Meningitis although I had no other Listeria symptoms

My symptoms came on gradually over 2 weeks & were put down to other things by myself & my GP- migraines, reaction to an op I had had, Bell's palsy, virus etc etc. It wasn't until I was rushed into hospital & had a lumbar puncture that I was eventually diagnosed with some sort of Meningitis. By then I was in quite a bad way but I suppose Meningitis is not the first thing the medical profession think of & I didn't dream that I could be suffering from something so serious & potentially fatal.

Like you my speech & eyesight were badly affected but they have returned to normal now. Indeed I could not lift my head from the pillow & had to learn to walk again. My writing has almost returned to how it was before ,but whilst I was ill I was unable to hold a pen or write at all.

I also have been left with balance problems & poor muscle tone, but hope to improve this with regular gym sessions.

Like you I was on very aggressive medication when I came home from hospital & was like you on antibiotics which turned my bodily fluids, including my wee, bright orange!

In conclusion I hope you continue to make a good recovery ,you have youth on your side which is great & I hope our stories will be of interest & helpful to others on here

With best wishes

Gill

Hi gabr

My name is Ujjwala. I wanted to know how you are doing now. Hope you are getting better each day.

My younger sister is suffering from TB meningitus for the last 7 months and her condition is not very good. We don't know if she will show any recovery from the current state she is in.. But I and my family are sure she will pull through this.

Wanted to learn more about your condition and recovery...so that I have some insight into a person who has gone through it and maybe I can help understand my little sister's condition better and bring her back.

Would really want to know if u can say anything when u were fighting this difficult period and what kind of help and things you were doing for your recovery.

Thanks for your time.

Good luck and lots of strength to you!

Ujjwala.

Hi Dina

Thank you for sharing your story. I currently have a family member in ICU in the US suffering from TB meningitis. He is comatose, on a vent, feeding tube, cath and currently getting a permanent shunt in brain to revlive the ICP. He has been in the hospital 5 weeks and on the TB medication for 4 weeks. He was comatose at the start of the TB medication. He has also suffered strokes and seizures. The hospital we are in is great and has a great nuero department. The problem is that they have never treated TB meningitis. They state that it could take months for the TB medication to make a difference. How long did it take in your case to see any improvement?? He has continued to worsen and we are wondering if this is the normal course of TB meningitis or if the medication in fact is not working. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Good afternoon, hope you can find answers with my questions. My father also diagnosed with TB Meningitis and placed a VP SHuNT. I'm just wondering if how many months or years will this disease totally gone. How many months did you totally recover? seeing him in his condition right now is a heart breaking. Hoping he will be fine and notice us again in God's time. Thank you

After the vp shunt placement i was in icu for over 2 weeks. In between that period i had regained my consciousness and then got shifted to isolation ward and i was discharged from hospital after 3 months.I took tb medicines for a year.As the meningitis also affected my spinalcord it had resulted in paraplegia.I will pray for your father for his recovery and give your family enough strengh to bear this

After the operation my father regained also his consciousness, but after a month it seems his body got tired and until now still on his recovery period. ( he was operated last December 17, 2018). He didn't talk , we could hear his voice louder when he cough, no body movement this time unlike last January 2018 where he recovered after the operation ( can talk loudly, recognized us and can eat on his own). I guess that's what they called relapse. Thank you so much for paying attention to my questions. I am always searching for any reviews which is quite similar to my father's condition and I think you for I found your post. Thank you so much

Hello. my father still bedridden at this time and he experienced speech loss. Before, okey naman xa nkapagsalita, can sit on his own, kaso nung inuwi na namin xa sa leyte last march kasi dito siya sa Cebu nmin pinagamot , pagdating nya samin hindi na xa nakakapgsalita. Parang nagkaroon siya ng relapsed. and up to this time yong improvements pa unti unti lang. kumusta na papa mo ngayon now lang ako nkapagreply ngaun ko lang napansin.

Even i had regained my conciousness i couldn't able to talk with my mother and my sister. It took me 2 months to talk and to take foods orally as the ventilation left my throat to go sore.I was in ng tube all those time. When i was unconscious in icu my mother used to play music in headphones for me and the doctors did advised to do so.They had always said me to keep my mind occupied.I'll pray for your father's speedy recovery.

Thank you so much, you really give me hope . like what my mother did, he always turned the radio on and it seems my father is listening. How's your condition by the way? Thank you for prompt response.

Best regards,

Marlit from Philippines :-)

Those days i was in a confused state and always thinking of something and if your father is in the same condition then my advice is that don't leave him that way.Loneliness was the major problem i faced when i was in the icu.Your presence alongside with him will help him a lot in his recovery. And i'm happy that my experience did helps someone who's in need.Be strong.

Thank you so much, all those conversations we had, I told it to my mother and upon hearing all those words came from you, she was happy knowing that sooner my father will be fully recover. May I ask how long did you managed tb meningitis before you came back to your senses? I mean, the time that you could say and those people around you that your really back .

when did you stop taking tb meds? and by the way how's your vp shunt so far? do we need to ct scan it again to see the outcome of the shunt if it's ok or not?

I'm so glad that I found you, and I'm very thankful to God and to you for you are the living witness that I and my family needs for us to keep on hoping and not about to give up that sooner in God's time my father will regain his strength and consciousness fully. This cased is quite rare in the Philippines , so we're not expecting this to happen in my father . I found this blog and I've always reading Meningitis now, seeking conditions like what my father experienced until I found your post. Thank you so much for not ignoring my questions for you are really the person whom I can talk to that can relate to his condition.
