What anti seizure medicine has everyone had luck with not having any side effects? I’m on Levetiracetam 500mg twice a day and am having heartburn, digestional issues, and trouble swallowing. I’m allergic to PPI’s and Pepcid. I was hoping the doctor would wean me off this medicine soon. I’m two months out from surgery and had no seizures prior or after. Anyone in a similar situation that have been weaned off their anti seizure medicine? How long did your doctor have you stay on it? I’m loosing weight and feeling my mental health decline from this situation. I’m nervous to get on a different medicine because of the side effects those may have. Any insight or help would be appreciated!

Hi, I had surgery 18 months ago and still am on Keppra (Levetiracetam 500mg twice a day) and it's likely I will be always.
I had awful side effects prior and after surgery. I thought post surgery I would have it reduced or I would be on a different medication.
I was told my bad side effects were linked to the reaction of the tumour with the medication, then my body going through post surgery recovery. I was advised that changing or cutting the medication is likely to bring on other serious side effects so I was advised to stay on the same dosage. It was hard to accept at the time (just a few months after my surgery) but now, I'm happy, no side effects yet feel proctected from anything worse.
I'm not medically trained, but from my experience I'd give your body a bit longer, see how it is in a few months.
