I am 61, had thought I’d work until I was at least 65. I’ve just had a year off during which I had a craniotomy and RT.( also taking steroids for GCA which isn’t helping!) I have just started a phased return to work. Work have been amazing and my return is very flexible. However, I don’t know if I can do it. I’m not sure I am capable of doing job and find working any hours and managing fatigue a challenge. Has any one stopped working on Health grounds? Were you able to claim benefits of any sort? I’ve already used a chunk of retirement pot and not added to it as had planned. Any thoughts/ advice welcome

Anyone had to stop work on Heath grounds?
Hi, I have had a similar situation. I got in touch with The Brain Tumour Charity, they were a great support and lots of information including claiming benefits. The website is very good and also you can contact them by telephone. I Hope that helps you. You take care xx
Hello, I am 45. I am from India. Diagnosed with Atypical meningioma at the age of 42, in 2020. The tumor was located at parieto-occipital lobe. Had a craniotomy and RT in the same year. I am an assistant professor and a college librarian. I rejoined to work in 2021. I also experience the same as you have said. In addition I am suffering from eye pain, ear pain and ringing in ears. Still I continued working to stay engaged and positive. Recent MRI of August 2023 showing reccurence of tumor. Neurosurgeon decided to wait till six months for next MRI. I have continued my job as well as my routine life style. Try to be engaged and if possible connect with Brain Tumour Charity to get help.
Hi I had my meningioma surgery Kim September 2022 and planned to return to work. However my confidence plummeted and I entered a severe depression. I resigned my position in February this year and focused on completing my business management degree. I am so lucky in that my husband supports me and I hope that in time I start my own business. I had an MRI in April which showed clear and have another next week.
All the best to you.
I was operated on Feb 2022. Went back to work June until November. I found it too much. A year later I still would. I was a self employed practice accountant for 21 years. I still know how to do the job but the number of clients, deadlines and stress involved it became too much. I’m only 50. I have got Employment Support Allowance. It’s about £500 a month paid fortnightly. There are other benefits out there but it depends on your disabilities. Mine was a Grade 2 ATypical so I’m on regular checks. Look after yourself. Health is more important than money.
I think you should talk to youe oncologist, if you are finding things difficult, afyer all you are recovering from this. If you are feeling that you cannot do it then you should talk to them. Also mcmillan shoukd be able to give advice. Good luck
