I have asked my GP for a learning disabilities assessment to keep getting help from a family support worker, but He said that He would chase my ASD assessment instead. I am really worried because our actual family support worker is leaving us as our daughter is 18 next month, but I cannot make conversations on the phone or in person with authorities, without someone that knows me very well next to me, because I am unable to challenge people and to speak up. My wife is unable to support me as she suffers from fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis and she is taking lots of morphine and other very strong painkillers. Have you any suggestion please?

From my experience I only got an IQ assessment and diagnosis because I was sectioned under the mental health act. Otherwise I wouldnt of got one. I was down as having moderate learning difficulties at school but without the IQ assessment and me scoring below 70IQ I wouldn't been accepted within the LD team

you should be accepted if you had moderate learning disabilities (different to learning difficulties) at school. did you have a SEN? also having a SEN at school and scoring below 70 means the LD team will have to accept you.

what was your IQ score when sectioned and what was your diagnosis?

take care and best wishes

I went to a special needs school and had a SEN. I scored 69 on the IQ test. If I didn't have severe mental illness as well as an LD I wouldnt of been accepted or funded with the LD team or even a supported living placement. Not with a IQ of 69 alone.

thanks for your reply. from what i have read, it counts that you had a SEN when you were at school. that justify's funding by LD team. SEN before 18 yrs of age proves LD. hope that helps. best wishes

Hi Ranger24, I'm 66 yrs old and been battling for years for my adult disabled son. sorry i am unclear about your message. please can you clarify if you want a learning disabilities assessment for yourself or for your 18 yr old daughter? And you say your GP said he would chase your ASD assessment? Is that an autism assessment? Have you not had one? who is going to do it? is there anyone / an advocate at the GP surgery you can contact? have you contacted the autism helpline?

which organisation is the family support worker from? social services? if your daughter is 18 next month, has the family support worker not informed you of who will take over to support you all? surely there should be someone from adult services?

i know its difficult dealing with these people. if you can answer my questions, i and or others may be able to help you. stay strong and best wishes

Hi olive001, my situation is difficult apparently because my GP said I didn’t attend schools in UK so I am unable to do the test. I think I would find something to do in alternative otherwise my life would be very difficult

I'm having the same problem getting a diagnosis of LD for my backwards son. He already had an IQ test and it was within the 80s so this means he's not entilited to be under the CLDT for support and to be frankly mental health services are useless, they are not meeting his needs and he is vulnerable. We want another IQ assessment but they won'r give him one. He's currently in a homeless hostel. He had to move out his flat because of his vulnerabilities. He's about to be discharged from the mental health team as they are now saying is problems are more environmental then mental illness, so we are back to square one.
