My daughter is 18 and has Down Syndrome, I am trying to find some sort of resource where I can make her a visual timetable of her daily activities. I have tried printing online ones but with little success, they seem to be for school activities. Any ideas?

Barneydino hi, I have Classic autism and mild LD and use a visual PECS schedule myself,if she is under the community learning disability team, you can ask to speak to the SLT who can bring her all the PECS she needs and a format to put them on.

If she’s not under the team, she can get assessed and then put in the cue for the SLT.

My SLT did that for me last year as I was using an old official PECS book which was hard to carry around on a lanyard, she recommended using a tin pencil case (found a pokemon one in B&M) ,lining the inside with a strip of Velcro, and the inside of the lid with Velcro, and she asked me and my staff what PECS I need and brought loads and spares to.

This is one of the ways your daughter coud have a a schedule.

I use the tin schedule when I am outdoors, and I have a big blue felt Velcro board on the wall for using at home, costed not a lot of money to make, bought the things from hobbycraft including felt fabric, spray on glue and a quite thin and lightweight board which were going cheap at the time-Plus some command strips to put it on the wall...to buy these boards costs well over hundred.

If she uses an iPad and prefers high technology to low, there is an absolutely great app on the iPad App Store called ‘Visual Planner’,it’s 15 pound (One off),though I had to add a lot of my own visuals as the catelogue of pictorials isn’t huge, but you can even adapt it to make sounds to make the user aware it’s time to do that task.

I *technically* coud make you a lot of pictorials (for free of course) as one of my 3 laptops (lol) has an app called symwriter on it...I’ve got a free pictorial app (Dutch I think but has English writing on them as well)On the same laptop, the app is called Pictoselector-has a huge Image library on it but I don’t think you can install it now,I think they remade it and started charging? I still have the original though.

Plus,I communicate with an AAC app called Proloquo2go and I have used these for pictorials before,however...I’ve given my dad that laptop as a spare while I downstall? windows 7 Onto his broken windows 10 laptop, Otherwise I’d love to make you them...using symwriter I used to make easy read flyers for the Mencap LGBT group I used to go to.

No problem,anytime!

If you need photos to get an idea of what either of them look like or even if the PECS book might be more useful to her,I can post photos of mine, although I’ve seen the newer ones, they change the style slightly every year,I think it’s a company called pyramid products who make and sell them.

I’ve just checked and pictoselector is still going, and it’s still a free app,but the pictorials are in two colours, usually black and white but sometimes red and white and green and white,so they’re great but won’t work for everyone’s needs.

I’m not sure if it’s been updated to work with windows 10 (or the latest Mac OSX) but it’s worth a try if you have a printer and a laminator already (you can always get both of these cheap from places like big Tesco’s or online,I got a cheap wireless printer from Tesco’s so I coud print off some PECS I needed on my iPad and photos for my art portfolio.)

And you will need hook & loop stick on Velcro,I found cheap local hardware stores sell it in bigger amounts for not much money, my local hardware shop sells a huge roll of it for £2,I’ve seen exactly the same roll on eBay being sold for over £5.
