Hello, we are looking for supported living for my daughter which specialises in visual impairment. We have found that the charity Seeability have some space relatively near to us. Has anyone has experience of this charity and their provision? Thank you

Seeability supported living
I know a parent that has their son there I could try and ask them for you.
Hi, my son (now nearly 39 yrs old) went to See-Ability in Leatherhead (?) in around 2007. I was hoping they would give my son specialist training for the blind which he desperately needed. The man on the phone said they would provide lots of training and skills. I couldn't believe our luck in finding out about this organisation.
My son's care assessment from the Local Authority only provided him with 10 hours a day care. The home provided this 'care'. In reality it was several people coming in daily and then rushing off. No skills training.
My son could not cope on his own. We had a terrible time. His father and I were travelling to see and help him several times a week. A journey of several hours.
My son only stayed approx. 3 months and then returned home.
These homes will take our children because they get paid. They will promise the world. Once they have our child / budget, they can be very lazy. Complaints and concerns get brushed under the carpet. We are passed from pillar to post with no positive action or change.
I dont know which home / centre you are looking at and I know our experience was quite some time ago. However my experiences have taught me not to trust anyone. Please make sure you have a solid assessment and know exactly what the home will provide. .. Get a clear Contract. Check on your daughter / them regularly. And dont be frightened of voicing your wishes and expectations.
My son has recently been diagnosed with a rare congential complex condition which also caused his blindness. Strange how See-Ability never noticed and raised concerns?
My has also been recently assessed as needing 24/7 care (big battles with Social Services ongoing). Luckily I have a direct payment to provide his care whilst he lives with me.
Please feel free to contact me again
Kind regards
Just wanted to say, how very clearly written & so onpoint about, they want our person's money & actually didn't provide what was agreed, or have the training to do so. Your Son is very lucky to have you & how great it is your sorting his Needs, care to come to him. Lovely strong Mum. I'm trying to do this for my 34-year-old Son, I am just waiting on Homeswapper or Bids on Homechoice, he can live independently, they have a 117 Care plan, will pull in support, after OT assessment of Needs.
Wherever you get offered or look for, be very sure you see qualifications & visit, make sure CQC rated well. Anywhere can talk promise, take your money, there are Alot of no good Care homes.
