Hi I have a 2 and half year old with a global development delay, he doesn’t walk. Stands if I stand him up he’s non verbal apart from a handful of words. Delayed in most areas of his development. He’s got possible hip dysplasia waiting on him seeing the orthopaedics for more insight and he’s to have an mri of his spine and Brain. I’m looking for advice on what he may be entitled to for his needs any advice would be appreciated thanks.
Global development delay : Hi I have a 2 and half... - Mencap
Global development delay
Keep your eyes peeled for signs of Autism, sensory processing, Speech and language difficulties, Dyspraxia, and other issues as they arise.
Maybe look at (county/unitary) Council website re: Assessment for Education Health and Care Plan and Carer's assessment (start now because it takes about a year!) and Mencap re: benefits - Personal Independence Payment (PIP) etc. My daughter started out with global developmental delay, now 24. My tip is to organise your paperwork/emails from the start because you end up with a lot of correspondence, reviews etc. Carers' support groups etc.
Hi,
On Mencap's website, there is a page on GDD mencap.org.uk/learning-disa... . If you scroll down to the bottom, there are four organisations signposted on it that specialise in GDD. You could also try contact.org.uk if you wanted to.
If you would like to speak any more about this, then do get in contact with Mencap's Helpline by phoning 0808 808 1111 or emailing helpline@mencap.org.uk.
Best wishes,
Harriet
