Yervoy at the halfway point

Right on time the side effects of Yervoy started for my husband 10 days ago. The research literature says the average point for side effects to show up is 1 week after the second treatment. Yep. We are totally average.

So it's been a rough week and we were also out of town for part of the time while my husband attended a work conference and I was working on my deceased brother's estate. Been a tough week emotionally trying not to hover tracking the Yervoy side effects, be present with the estate work and grief work in my brother's town, paying attention to my own reactions to the Yervoy, and not sleeping well.

I'm trying to be gentle in our expectations, take advantage of the windows where Wayne feels better, keeping BRAT-type foods at the ready (although even the thought of a banana is apparently nauseating for my hubby at this point), and appreciating that on Saturday we were able to have a full band rehearsal.

Next treatment is Friday. I continue to walk into the generally known, but completely unknowable on a daily basis world of living with melanoma in our house.

Sending deep respect out there today to the rest of the caregivers who also know this journey.

So sorry for your lost. I remember the side effects opdivo and yervoy brought to the table. Thinking of you both and wishing for success with this treatment

Thank you Vflowers. My husband is shifting to work from home as much as possible for the rest of this treatment. We live in DC and he commutes via metro, so that’s a long trip if you need a bathroom. Sleep has been better past two nights for him and I conked out myself last night. That little bit of normalcy is a blessing, as you know.

Hi Missy, keeping you and your husband in my thoughts. Has your husband tried sipping on ginger tea? It might help settle his digestive system.

I'll suggest it Coragirl25. Some foods have definitely been a turnoff because the immunotherapy has altered his sense of taste. He didn't like some noodles I made over the weekend that had quite a bit of fresh chopped ginger, but the tea is a completely different offering, so thanks. I'll also offer peppermint tea for the same reason.

Keep the suggestions coming, folks.

Today was blood draw day, so we'll make sure all the lab values are looking good by Friday before infusion #3.
