Is EMDR helpful?

Hello everyone,

I hope you're doing as well as possible. I'm reaching out because I live in a country where mental health services are lacking, and accessing proper help has been a significant challenge for me. Recently, I've been researching different therapeutic approaches and came across Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. It seems like it could be beneficial for my situation.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from those who have tried EMDR tools or self-administered EMDR. Given the limited mental health resources where I live, exploring self-administered techniques might be my best option.

If anyone has experience with EMDR, especially with self-administered methods or tools, I would greatly appreciate hearing about your journey. How did you find the process? Did it help you cope with your challenges? What advice would you offer to someone considering trying EMDR on their own?

Your insights would be invaluable to me as I navigate this path towards healing and self-care in a system with limited resources.

Thank you all for your support and understanding.

Warm regards

I found emdr very helpful for healing my childhood trauma but I worked in person with a trauma therapist. the benefit and purpose of emdr is helping a person process the traumatic emotions and memories and then desensitize them so they are no longer triggering. I would suggest trying it to see if it benefits you. The other thing you might check out is EFT which is somewhat similar to emdr but is something that you can do yourself on your own, there is a bunch of videos on youtube about it.
