The event started with the last post and a 2 minute silence at 11am - this was really well observed.
The run itself started at 11.10am on a predominantly flat scenic route. This had PB written all over it, so let’s see what happens…
Weather wise it was dull and damp but for the majority of the race not raining, although at some point drizzle descended. Still don’t know when!
The route is ‘out and back’. Wow, the front runner was carrying some pace as he passed us around the 3k mark (7k for him).
I’d set off a little fast, but could see a PB at 5k was possible, my previous was on a long down hill, so really wanted to see the back of that.
Briefly stopped at the water point for a few gulps and splash some on my face - really wish I hadn’t in hindsight.
around 8km the windmill comes into view, crikey that never seems to get closer. In the final few km I made a conscious decision to slow and try and pace at 6’/km as I’d slightly over done it but could see a 10km PB was on the cards.
Overall finish 58’12”, about 47 seconds faster than previous PB - without that water stop I could have got sub-58. 5km was a PB as well.
Loved the run and the last post is poignant.
