I debated not writing this as there’s not much good to say…

This is my local 10k race, so I felt I should enter. This is my 3rd year doing it.

Race packs where handed out before the race, unfortunately the only communication about this was on a Facebook page, the queue stretched about 50 metres!

Race number acquired, I headed off to McDonald’s to use their toilets rather that queue for the limited number at the event.

The race start was delayed by 10 minutes so all the numbers could be distributed.

Once underway, the run headed to the local park, strangely there was a water point at the 1km mark. The run used nearly every path in the large park before heading out for a 2km loop then around the park again before venturing back into the city, passing the water point again at 9km.

Unfortunately some runners got lost or were mis-directed by well meaning marshals. The km markers bore no resemblance to the actual distance covered. :-(.

On finishing, my watch read 9.77km, somewhat short of the true distance. This wasn’t an issue with my watch, the course was short. I would have been gutted if I’d have tried for a PB. (Too hilly a route for that).

On finishing, I was back soon enough to get an event t-shirt - evidently they ran out - and the event ‘bling’ which was a disappointing circle of plastic with a sticker of the event crest on it.

Needless to say, there won’t be a 4th year of doing this one.

I know there must be a lot of organisation goes into these runs, however this one seems to have gotten cheaper every year I’ve done it.

Good run for you Reggit, well done, it's very annoying if the kilometre marks are wrong and it's not even 10K, last week I ran 1OK, the distance was correct and the one K markings were also correct until after the 7K distance, however, about 500 metres after the correct 7K mark there was ANOTHER 7k mark, how strange, this second 7K like the other 1K markers were in white on the ground, the 8K marker was also at the wrong place and dispite LAST YEARS 9K mark still slightly visible in the correct place there was NO 9K marker at all, runners want to know where the 1K to go is, apart from that I got a PB.

Bit of a disappointment Reggit, but your legs will have derived some benefit. Not a total loss 🙂

That's a shame, even though you had a good run,

urgh, sorry that it was a disappointment - it’s frustrating when a potentially good even is let down by poor organisation. But well done all the same! 👍🏽

As a tail end runner I find it annoying when they run out of T-shirts or my size (medium), I know the cost has to keep down otherwise we moan about entry fees but it is a good way to make me feel second rate. The bling also sounds disappointing.

Such a shame when am event is lacking in a bit of competent organisation, for you and for the volunteers who give up their time. Still you got a run and you will be expressing your displeasure by not going again and you have given the rest of us all fair warning.

Oh goodness, that's quite a list of negatives! Espfor an event that has run several times before. It's a luxury to have an event on the doorstep though, maybe there will be enough feedback to ensure positive changes for next year.Hope you enjoyed the atmosphere and run itself.

I feel your frustration as this sounds very similar to my recent HM where the organisation let the runners down.

But you did it and won’t be back. Such a shame but I don’t blame you.

Gosh Reggit, a catalogue of negatives. Not good, as I highly doubt it was cheap to enter.

Hopefully enough people will express their displeasure and it’ll make them buck their ideas up if there’s to be another event. Might be too late for you and probably lots of others as the damage is already done, but it’s not good enough. That’s a very short measurement too.

I too have had to accept a dress sized teeshirt when my size had run out. Come on organisers, get a grip.

I once collected a small tee ahead of my local half marathon so I could wear it for the race When I put it on on race day it was enormous 😁. It came to my knees and wrapped round me twice 😁

well done for completing it (well 9.7km if it) but that many negative things would also put me off.

You ran it and finished it, got the medal. It’s what you set out to do 😀👍

I know it’s disappointing and annoying but it’s done now You might get asked for your feedback though 🙂

I don’t think so. All the non-positive feedback on their FB site was deleted! That says a lot in my opinion.

Not what you're looking for?
