I debated not writing this as there’s not much good to say…
This is my local 10k race, so I felt I should enter. This is my 3rd year doing it.
Race packs where handed out before the race, unfortunately the only communication about this was on a Facebook page, the queue stretched about 50 metres!
Race number acquired, I headed off to McDonald’s to use their toilets rather that queue for the limited number at the event.
The race start was delayed by 10 minutes so all the numbers could be distributed.
Once underway, the run headed to the local park, strangely there was a water point at the 1km mark. The run used nearly every path in the large park before heading out for a 2km loop then around the park again before venturing back into the city, passing the water point again at 9km.
Unfortunately some runners got lost or were mis-directed by well meaning marshals. The km markers bore no resemblance to the actual distance covered. :-(.
On finishing, my watch read 9.77km, somewhat short of the true distance. This wasn’t an issue with my watch, the course was short. I would have been gutted if I’d have tried for a PB. (Too hilly a route for that).
On finishing, I was back soon enough to get an event t-shirt - evidently they ran out - and the event ‘bling’ which was a disappointing circle of plastic with a sticker of the event crest on it.
Needless to say, there won’t be a 4th year of doing this one.
I know there must be a lot of organisation goes into these runs, however this one seems to have gotten cheaper every year I’ve done it.
