60 minute run 😊

I went on a 10K run last Saturday. (No, not in 60 minutes - that’s never going to happen!). It was OK and I did push myself a little. I did it in about 1hr 31 minutes and couldn’t help feeling a little disappointed. Birdlady64 pointed out that the humidity was high. It was 83%. Well it got me thinking! I read some articles which suggested that running when the humidity is above 70% could be challenging. Wait, what?! I checked my last 20 or so morning runs. Pretty much all of them were above 80% humidity and a fair few of them were above 90%. When I run with my running club it’s always in the evening and it’s quite hot! The humidity is much lower (but I struggle more in the heat). I guess that over time my body has learned to accept the higher humidity of the early mornings but I still struggle in the higher temperatures! So - no excuse for that 10K run 😬

After a successful 4K with my running club on Tuesday (it was a little cooler), I laced up for a low heartrate 60 minute run this morning. It was overcast, 16 degrees (felt like 11) breezy with humidity of 80%. It felt pretty good! Heart rate was easy to manage. Did not notice the humidity at all. I took my air guitar with me and was happily playing along to Mark Knopfler’s solo in Telegraph Road, oh yes! Before I knew it, the hour was done. Just over 6K with average heartrate of 129. 😊

Looking forward to autumn and winter running! 😊

We're definitely best in what we know! But it sounds like you know yourself well, and that has got to help to - you can play to your strengths! Then you can have fun, just like that lovely second run. Without the occasional disappointment, we may not notice all the good runs 🥰 Just now it feels like autumn has arrived early, you may get your wish sooner than you expected!

I noticed a lot of leaves falling in the breeze 😊

No…please let this be fake news…..autumn is not here early 🙂…next week looks quite warm up here with 24 degrees expected from mid week onwards. Summer didn’t arrive until mid July, so we must have loads of summer left!

Sorry; diverted…..great runs Jools2020 . 4pm is the hottest part of the day says Coach Bennett…that said I did a 6k plus hill run around 4pm yesterday and it felt fine 🤷‍♂️.

Air guitar on a run is great…amps might be an issue?🙂

Kind of pleased summer isn’t over! And yes, each run is different. So many factors at play apart from the weather 😊

Well done Jools2020 . I am also looking forward to cooler runs - today was quite fresh here, much easier than running in heat!🙂

Excellent runs!! I hope your air guitar wasn't too heavy...

I'm running 10K at that pace, too. Hope to better that with more experience but I just can't believe I'm at 10K...

Thanks. 10K is a great distance! You will better it as you get used to it. My aim was to do one every couple of weeks - but life got in the way 😊

Thanks! Since I stopped being coached, plans aren’t quite so well thought out! 😊

All the best to you, too 😊

I’m with Lavender, that is a great heart rate Jools. Autumn really feels like it is closing in. I love running through the falling leaves.

10K is a brilliant distance whatever the time in my book. It was funny reading some of your replies as I also was looking to run a 10K roughly every 2 weeks after my 1st 10K this last February. I thought at the time that this was a fairly conservative idea, nothing crazy. I'm eventually lining up my second 10K next week i.e September 😄As you say life gets in the way. Still the main thing is to stay with it I guess.......

Yes, the plan was to fall back onto 10K as I increased towards a half marathon! (I got up to 10 miles and it all went to pot !) Ah well - there’s no need to rush 🤣. As you say, 10K is a brilliant distance in itself. The longer distances can now wait until autumn is well under way with its cooler temperatures.

Good luck with your second 10K (wherever you decide to do it!) 😊
