Nice afternoon doing our stint of the Isle of Wight Relay. There were 12 legs in total and we were doing leg 10,just a short 3.5 miles but straight into a hill 1st and then one more big hill that goes up and up to the top of St George's Down! Then flat with a lovely downhill finish, lovely views! The weather was very muggy but not too sunny! Usually this event goes all round the island on the coastal paths but this year due to cliff falls it was across from one end of the island and back! Around 54 miles in total. Our team "Ventnor Sloggers" had an amazing 3D laser printed multi metallic coloured baton ,it was v cool ,made by a team number! It was the envy of all the teams! π We think there were 6 teams this year but as its very unofficial and no results yet we're not 100% sure, but we were ahead of our usual last place, being 4th we think!!! We had some speedies running !
We were cheered into the finish by teammates and some other friends waiting for their team members to arrive. We celebrated with a coffee at the pub then headed back on the bus + 15 min walk over 1st part of our route in reverse to pick up our cars!
Didn't get to see the finishers but we had contant photo updates via WhatsApp so knew everyone did well! A fun event ! ππββοΈπββοΈπ

Sounds like a really good day Ali. You have a good running community there; accent very much on having fun, although I am sure that your run was taxing. π
Thankyou @Beachcomber66, yes we're lucky to have so much going on here ! You can see on the profile the bits where I walked up the big hills! Was sweating buckets but it was good and haven't done that route for ages!! πxxx
I started running my hill route again, once per week, about 3 months or so back after making an informal pact with cheekychipmunks . Since then I have run a number of PBs at different distances, and my βeasyβ pace is about 30 seconds per lap quicker. Hills rock!! π
Indeed Beachcomber66 . Last year I actively avoided hill routes, but this year Iβm including them more and more. Not massive ones, but nice and undulating.. The thrill of getting up one is worth it, and coming down is the best fun, knowing youβve earned it! π
Ooh yes, it's easy to easy why the other teams were envious πI guess you get to meet the other leg 10 people, but not necessarily everyone in your team? The logistics must be interesting!
We had 2 teams waiting for handover after us so we knew we were ahead of them! Saw a few others at the finish collecting their cars! Maybe we should have left a car at our finish and then we could have zoomed over to Bembridge, never mind! But it was a good afternoon π WhatsApp a godsend for coordination!!! Xxx
Wonderful aliboo70 . You have such fun with your running groups on the IoW, and this sounds just lovely, performing a relay across the island. It was a good day for it, being a bit cloudy. I know we were grateful for the cloud at parkrun at Moors Valley yesterday.
Well done to you and your team ππββοΈππ»ββοΈπ What an amazing baton and the elevation graph! Looks very steep up and very steep down. How many years have the sloggers been taking part in what sounds like a very special event?
