Just a little run down(pardon the pun!) on todays 10 mile race.
Living on the Isle of Wight this is local one for me but part of the Hampshire Road league too so plenty of mainland club runners which is great to see. Plenty of my club mates there to see us off and that nasty 1st hill makes for tough 1st mile. I'd done a recce of the route last week with 11 friends(in much kinder weather!)which made me feel a bit more secure that I'd make it round at least ! But my running this last year hasn't been very prolific to put it mildly ! So I was a bit nervous for today ! Having been bought the place for a Christmas pressie cos I said I liked the look of the medal meant no backing out!
Weather blustery but rain very minimal, much better than the forecast! Great support from my club mates meant lots of shout outs and cheering (a lady running near me said "you're very popular!"๐คช) which helped a lot! I got a bit of a stomach cramp before 5k but luckily this wore off and I was able to have 2 gels over the race to give me a lift. Got a nice compliment from guy behind me who said he was impressed I kept on going up the hills which gave me a boost and we had a bit of a chat as we headed to the beach section and talked about the caravan park hill which was coming next! At the top if this one 5 clubmates were whooping which was brilliant! I told them I was singing my hill song I made up when doing Needles HM a few years back !
I love the section through to Seaview and my brother was there to see me go through๐it was getting a bit more cold and windy by then but I had the boost of thinking only 1 more hill and 3k to go! Once at the top -after reassuring a lady alongside me that this really was the last hill - it was flat then a lovely downhill finish and my favourite sight of the finish line and the challenge of finding a little something in the legs for a sprint finish! Cheered in by more clubmates, collected my pretty medal and a drink. Off to watch others come through and compare tales of the race then to the club House for coffee and a kitkat(I saw the rainbow too Blackberrypie !)
Overall a great race day and proud of myself to run all the way , but not impressed with how tight my clubvest is nowadays!! Diet starts tomorrow as had takeaway tonight!!

Wow!! What a terrific report. You deserved the takeaway. Well done on so many positive parts to your run. All like little boosts as you made your way around. An excellent run and one to remember and look back on fondly ๐
Thankyou! Thats the bonus of local races we always have such great support . I have booked a days holiday today so looking forward to a seafront walk in the sunshine to try the legs out!
Great report Ali! And fab photos too. Well done ๐ช The support must have made a difference but then you probably get loads of great support on all your races! A local celebrity ๐
And Iโm not surprised you wanted to do this for the bling, itโs beautiful ๐ xxx
Thsnks IP it's a pretty one ,designed by one of the Club members (in the other club who organised the race!)My best friend Tracy( who's hubby was racing )got the route wrong and was sat on the seafront having a coffee and wondering where all the runners where! ๐คฃ
Having a nice day off walking doggo and gardening;sunny here today. Legs feeling not bad really! Xxx
Congratulations Ali, thatโs a great report about a tough race well run. How lovely to have so much support on your home turf - you must definitely be a popular member of your club. Well done mโdear, top job x
Thankyou AM hope all good with you???๐ I hardly get to our club nights as Thursdays are usually busy ๐ชbut see lots of them at other clubs we are members of and parkrun๐they are a jolly lot! Xxx
My hill song comes out often in races but only in my head! And also this one which my friend who passed away had on her favourite playlist ,so I try and take her advice from it ....its a good one to run to abd a positive message. And I did enjoy yesterday!
"Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as you wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think" xxx ๐
Congratulations aliboo70 , sounds like you had a great time! I'm not into races or bling myself (yeah, I know, that's sacrilege round here) but that is indeed a very cute medal.
Thanks lovely Floss! There was a good feel to the race, but trust me I'm not always happy when I run ! But I like the feeling at the end! Got to smile for the camera too!but it was a good one ๐xxx
