I decided to sign up for my first 10k event (in fact my first event, other than parkruns) and coincidentally it coinsided with the HUHM10K which obviously I had already signed up for. My middle daughter Tasha started me off running last year after losing about 3 stone and we decided one day we'd run a 10k together, this was it.
It was a lovely day in Caerphilly although, I'm guessing the person who wrote the course info had never been near Wales let alone Caerphilly. It was described as flat for the first 5k and undulating for the remaining 5k. Well it was flat for about 200ms then went straight up a hill for 200ms. It then came down but I would say the remainder of the first 5k was undulating. The second 5k was undulating but also had 2 steep climbs which I would definitely call 'hills'. π π
The crowds were very supportive and the whole event was well organised and we both enjoyed it immensely. The one minus was lack of bins to discard water bottles thus causing a mess and understandably angering locals.
The photo is of Tasha and I crossing the line together; although she managed to get a foot in front to beat me on time π

What a brilliant first race, a gorgeous photo and such happy memories for you both π Well done both of you. Iβm sure this will be the first event of many for you.
I do think that race organisers just lie π The number of races that have promised βflatβ and then you get anything but! So cheeky. And Iβve learned that βundulatingβ is just their way of saying itβs hilly!
Congratulations OMR!!! How wonderful to run that with your daughter. Usually events like this will make sure all water bottles are cleared up so as NOT to anger the locals. One man's idea of hills and undulations is very different from another's; it's far better when websites give an elevation map as well as the course route, or at least quantitative rather than qualitative data π But you did it. Conquered the flats, the undulations and the hills! Well done π
That's such a lovely photo OMR and I laughed about the hills not being mentioned- Carephilly is not known for flat is it! What a fantastic race for you both.
