Completed a trail marathon event. Trained, ran where I could, walked where I couldn't, or had other priorities. Jeffing doesn't work for me.
While BHF is undoubtedly a good cause, forum guidelines prohibit fundraising: healthunlocked.com/marathon...
Thank you for letting me know, I'm looking into everything at the moment and taking in as much as I can I'm loving all the advice
Really interesting to read that run-walk doesn’t work for you Cmoi . Why do you think this is? I ask because I have always been wary that jeffing would upset my rhythm (if that makes sense) and yet, I can’t see me ever completing a marathon solely running!! (not sure I want to do one anyway tbh!) Maybe the answer would be what you did.🙂
Sandraj39 , the main reason that fixed run-walk intervals don't work for me is that they're totally unsuited to my preferred running terrain, i.e. off-road and with a 2% minimum average gradient calculated over the whole run. I need to make my own decisions about risk, energy-efficiency and enjoyment, not blindly follow some out-of-context formula which could have me running on an uneven slippery 20% gradient and walking on a flat gravel path.
Keeping a running rhythm does play a part in it for me, but that's mainly psychological - if I'm running OK, why would I stop and walk? Pushing myself comes into it too - there are plenty of paths round here that I know I can walk, so the challenge is to run them.
Fwiw I can't ever see me completing a flat, road-based marathon either - running all that way, especially with thousands of others, sounds hellish to me.
I know some people have jeffed a marathon so hopefully you’ll get some tips from them soon. Have you found a suitable training plan to incorporate this method?
If you put “Jeff marathon” in the search bar you will see a few posts with some information you may find useful.
As Cmoi says in her reply, unfortunately we don’t allow fundraising on the forums. But we wish you all the best of luck with raising funds for such a brilliant charity.
Not looked into jeffing yet just something I'm considering at the moment and thank you no worries about not being able to post for charity
I’m sure you’ve already found this jeffgalloway.com/training/m...
Runners’ World did a podcast about this…it was really interesting. Here it is in case you fancy a listen…

Episode 211 The Power of the Run Walk
I have only completed one marathon. It was an impulse decision so I only had a very limited time to train and figured attempting to run the whole thing would be a disaster. We set off with a plan to run 1.2km, walk 0.4km (so each interval was one mile). It worked really well and we completed it despite our lack of training!!! I have to say though, it feels like 'unfinished business' - and one day I would like to run a marathon rather than run/walk it. I'm not sure it would end up much quicker though to be honest.
I haven't personally run walked one but do know people that have. You'll be fine if this is something you've done before and are used to, or have enough time to train that way. Like Cmoi said, jeffing doesn't work for me too although it's a really popular way to do it. It really is such an incredible feat to complete a Marathon. However you do go though I wish you all the best in your training for it.
I ran/walked my first one (can’t find my original reply to your post ☺️👀).
I followed a strategy that I found on the internet. I’ve been looking for it and can’t find it but I’ll keep looking 🙂Basically I ran for 2.5 km and walked for 0.5km. It felt odd walking so early into the run but I had faith it would work and it did. I ran walked my 2nd marathon but a bit more loosely
I was 60 when I ran my first marathon and it seemed sensible to run/walk to ensure I got round in one piece . It was, and I’m glad I stuck with it
I found this while looking for the article. Ultra marathoners are Jeffing too! 🙂
