Well runners, less than a week to go before our HU event on the 19th! It’s so exciting! We hope your training is going well and you are on fine form to join the start line. At the last count we have a total of 59 runners taking part. Such a fantastic total number!
If you haven’t entered, then there’s still time. Read all about it here and sign up. If you can’t make the 19th then you have until Sunday 26th to get it done 🤗
This is the place to tell us how your training has gone. Are you on track for your distance of choice? You can still change if you want/need to. I’ve just changed from 10 miles to 10K because I ran out of time getting back to 10 miles and I have a few races coming up and didn’t watch to jeopardise them by pushing too much. I’m making a big effort to be sensible for a change 😂
Whatever the distance you’re going for, you can be guaranteed lots of (virtual) company, pompoms and a great playlist created by you for you 🥰
And finally, a bit of further news about the event. Watch out for a SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT COMING YOUR WAY SOON. We think you’ll like it!
If you haven’t signed up for this event or are unable to do it this time then we’d still love to hear about your week. Tell us what you’ve been up to and how the running is going.
Whatever you’re doing, have a great week everyone!
From your team, Beachcomber66 , linda9389 and me xxx
I’m away this week at a work conference with hubby so another week of not being on my Marathon plan. I will be running just no time for super long ones which is probably a good thing as still not feeling 100%. I’m going to be testing my new ASICS superblast for race day. I could only bring one pair of running shoe’s for the week so I hope I like it.
Looking forward to next week HU event. I will have to do my 10 miles as part of a longer run or I could swap to the 10K.
Beautiful backdrop as ever RW. Next week is supposed to be 20k on my HM plan, but I am planning to limit myself to 10 miles. Who knows what might happen over the last 3k though; sometimes the legs take over and make their own decisions. Trying hard to be sensible!
Very sensible decision IP. One risky attempt to run further than we are ready for can set us back weeks. I restarted NRCHM to get me to this point because I felt that, whilst I was building up distance, the strength stamina and pace weren’t there. It seems to be paying off now 🤞🤞🤞🤞
All built on your 7:30 long run easy pace RW, except that easy pace is now upwardly mobile! A vital piece of advice at just the right time; thank you 🙂
Oooooh Superblasts are supposed to be the best RW - enjoy! They’re really difficult to get hold of here. I hope your training is going well - good luck with your HU run, I hope you feel much better for it 🤞
Can’t wait for our HU virtual event next weekend. 😍 I’m doing the 10k which will also triple up as my NRC HM Plan W5 long run, and the Great Bristol 10k. So much to run for! 👏
I ran 10k in the heat yesterday too, as W4 of the plan also has that distance as the long run. Hope it’s not as warm next Sunday; judging by the forecast it shouldn’t be, but who knows? Whatever the weather it’ll be fun (heck, there’s bling 🏅).
Another great fun aspect to next Sunday is that my daughter and eldest grandson (4.5) are doing the mile Family Run. They’ve raised nearly £300 for the Wallace & Gromit Grand Appeal, and it’ll be his first piece of bling! 🥰🥰🥰
I love lining up with the kids on race day. When the gun goes off it’s mayhem The kids let loose 🌪. Adults trying to keep up 🥵😁. I hope we’re doing it again in June 😀
Hi thereI've always wanted to run 10 miles, I've tried to increase distance twice before but been thwarted by injury and 2nd time by my lack of commitment. When I saw that the HU virtual was 10k or 10 miles I decided to go for it.
I'm rubbish at following plans... so I have literally been working through my own made up "back of a beer mat" plan.
Last Sunday I ran 14.5k, my longest run so far and it felt OK . So I'm pretty sure from there I can add on to reach the magical 10 miles 🤞
I keep meaning to post up my runs but then don't ...... I keep thinking I'll jinx my progress... daft I know but it's become a bit of a thing😂
10 miles should be no problem dijep. Another 1.6 k or so will just fly by. It is always interesting to read others’ run posts….we learn from each other’s triumphs and mistakes…mainly my mistakes 🙂. Looking forward to reading your 10 mile report…nothing to jinx at that point 👍
Thank you. I think with the posts it was also that I got to a stage where they always seemed to say virtually the same, plus a lot of run buddies that started at the same time as me disappeared of the forum.
14.5K is fantastic and you’ve timed your training perfectly for next weekend! We’ll start polishing the 10 mile badge for you in readiness 🏅
I do know what you mean about not staying quiet in case things get jinxed. I do that sometimes too but then feel at the end of the day we’re all runners here and we understand if things don’t work out. But it sounds as if you’re in great shape to do the 10 miles 👍 so no jinxing here!
A surprise coming; how exciting !!! …oops, it’s a secret 🤫.
A rather warm 8 mile run with CB for me this morning. Conditions were just beautiful. Shade from the trees, firm underfoot and a warm gentle breeze to take the edge of the sun. Perfection!
I decided to push the pace again (today’s run was 8 miles of my 10 mile route), just to see what happened. Upside I increased the pace by about 4 seconds/k, downside the effort pushed me off Superior VO2max rating. It gives and it takes away 🤷♂️. There is a theoretical chance of a 10 mile PB next week; I will see how I feel on the day. There is a long uphill section over laps 8,9 and 10. I am running it less slowly now, but I leave a lot of energy on the uphill part!
I just missed disaster this afternoon when we took Molly to the cafe for lunch. One of the regular patrons has a mobility scooter. Today, the motor just wouldn’t engage when he was ready to leave; so I tried to push start it, with help from a lady from the cafe. It ended up running over the outside of my right foot!! Fortunately it just caught my little toe, and there was no pain….so I think I have escaped lightly. We live so near the edge we runners!
Hope everyone’s training is going well…stay well clear of scooters!!
Aagh BC, I read this with a bit of trepidation when you started the story of the possible disaster! That could have scuppered all your training and plans! Thank goodness nothing serious happened and I hope your little toe is ok 🙏 Phew!
I nearly took a tumble last week but thankfully didn't make it to the ground. I tripped on some tree roots and felt myself start to go but luckily managed to stay upright. But, as you say, we live so near the edge all the time. The least little thing can trip us up. Literally 🙀
You clearly had much better weather than me. It’s been wet and windy and a bit chillier again today. Such a change from the last few days 😎
You are on fine form for next week’s 10 miles. Stay at home and don’t move until then!!! 😂
Now there’s an idea! Except that I have a hill run on Thursday and speed run on Saturday….unless I miss the speed run and save it all for the 10 miles……🤔
Talking of near disasters! I met up with a lady in the cafe today; I am sure that she was the rider of a horse I was asked to lead last year while she sat up there trying to control a spooked younger horse on a long rein! Never led a horse before….I just kept thinking of the local shop owning ultra runner who was IC for months when her daughter’s show jumper trod on her foot. I must fight this Sir Gallahad syndrome 😂
Hello all VRBs! I'm not feeling very fit, my partner has a crazy early start for Netley 10k on 19th so I might go out a bit after he's left while the roads are quiet 🤔not sure. Sometimes my run club do Sunday run of around that distance too! Hmmmm! I'm plodding on but did manage a faster (for me lately) 5 k last week at a club nominated time series and my 2nd best parkrun this year on Saturday xxx
Sounds to me as though you are coming into form at just the right time aliboo 🙂. I plan to do nothing more than complete the distance. I am running near 10 mile pb times…but I am not going to push it. That is the route to IC for me.
Legs still aching from Sunday! Had 2 days on reception/box office this week , could have done with my usual job which involves more trips up and down the stairs!!! 🤣xxx
6.30 am ferry! 💤💤💤I'll tell him to keep an eye out, think there is around 20 from our club going ! Xxx I'm not motivated enough to go! Will prefer my local 10k xxx good luck to UpTheStanley !!!
Ooh IP, I’m intrigued, what have you got in store for us? I’m looking forward to it even though I’ve had a couple of weeks of lower mileage runs. I should still have it in my legs to do at least 10 miles I reckon 🤞
I had a lovely surprise this afternoon. I had an email from yesterday’s race organiser saying I hadn’t picked up my prize and could they post it! I’ve never had a prize before, I was completely bowled over - it’s made my week - £10 and a certificate! I might have to get a frame for the certificate! The £10 went to the charity as I’m more than happy just to have the bit of paper with ‘1st in age category’ written on it 😃
I love the photo IP. I can just picture myself running under the shade of the leafy trees on warm summer's day - bliss! 😊Enough day dreaming for now, my knee is recovering well from it's HM injury/strain, so, I'll enter the 10k, (a combination of running/walking to be decided on the day), but I'll definitely have to withdraw from the 10 miles.
I try to head for trees if it’s hot, and luckily I have a little forest close to home and also the arboretum to run amok 😎
Glad your knee is recovering but a wise decision to change the distance. I’ve done the same and feel much happier about it. We’ll make the adjustment on the s/sheet 😊
Here I am and what a beautiful photograph that is. I am, currently, all about the trees and many of my runs, have photo shot, slow-downs in them!
I am sort of on track... the 10K Race I April was a real confidence booster and made me realise that all our runs, however short or long, plus, certainly for me, a regular support, exercise routine, all impact on what we wish to achieve. Since then... my runs have been shorter but nonetheless useful....
I ran 6K last Sunday, and cut it short, only, because even early in the day the weather was very warm and I had an odd twinge in my right foot! I know I could have reached 10K, easily. otherwise.
My strength and stamina levels are good. Three weeks of heavy garden jobs and workouts...Bike storage building, small garden storage shed building...the dismantling of an 8' x4' work-shed and, as if that was not enough, this Sunday, ( after my run ), re-siting my greenhouse on the place left vacant by said, shed.
Mr OF and I did all this work... and as he commented this morning, as two, well over 70year old maybe we are, slightly mad!
My foot is still a tad uncomfortable.... but I have T'ai Chi class this morning, so will see how it holds up.
Hopefully all will be well for my 10K effort on Sunday...I just need to pick a route
Looking forward very much to the surprise... what can it be? Thanks for this IP x
That all sounds really positive Floss. Cross training with a tangible outcome; much more productive than pumping iron! “Alternative Training” could become a thing for runners 🙂
Ha ha... I have used that term, many times over the years. I sometimes think that some. alternative training, actually is more productive too ! It really is exercise with a very satisfying outcome!
It’s clear that your strength and stamina levels are top notch Floss! Heavy garden jobs take their toll. I sometimes take a little 😴 afterwards.
Have you any idea what caused the twinge in your foot? Did you wear garden shoes and were they perhaps tighter than your usual shoes? Sometimes it’s a little thing that causes these twinges.
I do hope it settles down and be ok for your 10K. I’m keeping everything crossed for you 🤞
I didn't have my steel capped garden shoes on... and I think that's where I went wrong.. resting large panels in the top of my feet! Not sensible, with hindsight.
I'm hoping it settles.. I'll wear my comfiest of running shoes.
hi, I’m not really prepared for this challenge. We have a complicated journey to France on Thursday that involves, cars, planes, trams and trains. Had a bit of a nightmare with the hire car website that took 3 days to resolve so I’m a bit frazzled.
Track night was cancelled yesterday for a school athletics event. I know I should have just run anyway but it didn’t happen. Tomorrow is a cycling day so hopefully fresh air and exercise will be on the agenda (with coffee and cake), perfect to restore a state of mental equilibrium.
I am hoping all will be well when we reach our house in France and I will feel up to the 5k run with the local group on Friday. Sunday the group have a special run planned with some outsiders organising it, I’m hoping to do the 10k as my HU challenge. They say they will be done in an hour so let’s hope I can follow the route and not get lost as I will be some 20 mins behind them, and there better be some cake left!!!
The live event I was planning to run on the same day has been pushed back until September sadly, but I still intend to do our event. My running has gone a bit to pot since the Cambridge HM, I got a lurgy a week or so afterwards, that rather scuppered me too.
So, I've started the Nike HM plan again, I don't have a HM on the horizon, but I enjoyed it when I did it before, and it gives me a bit more structure. I'm only on week one, the long run is 5k this week, but having done the King's Lynn 10 ten days ago, I reckon I can slip a 10K in without too much difficulty.
I'm looking forward to it very much, it's nice to think of you lot all running "with" me!
That all sounds like everything has fallen into place for you CG! When we first started C25K did we ever think we’d ever be able to say “I reckon I can slip a 10K in without too much difficulty.” 🥰
Or.... " I know I could have reached 10K, easily. otherwise." You are so right IP! if folk had told me all those years ago,. just where this running take us... I would have laughed outright"
I just unfurled a new NRC plan for my next hilly 10k in July. Hope to do run 1 on Thursday 😀.
I’ll be with you in spirit this Sunday 🏃♀️👍. Hope the weather’s nice 😎. I might make myself some cake to celebrate with. Or maybe a scone as I’ve got a new port of jam 😁
I'm still gradually building back, but for now I can report my training is going well! Garmin is less impressed and wants me to run all out anaerobic runs, before he will consider me productive! Makes me feel very sensible, knowing I can resist that temptation.
Well, having said that ... I went to parkrun on Saturday and ran the whole thing for the first time this year. I went to a new one with no pressure to beat a previous time, I even congratulated myself every time someone overtook me 😍 But as ever, the crowd carried me along and I still finished quicker than I had intended!
I ran 7.5k yesterday with no ill effects, but with my sensible hat still on, I'm going to run my 10k next week rather than this Saturday to get those last few kms steadily. On Saturday I hope to walk my 10 miles and cheer everyone on with gusto!!!
Whatever you're running towards, have a great week everyone. For anyone on the IC, remember this is another week closer to your comeback 😊
7.5K!! Fab news 🥳 I’m sure you're much relieved Linda even though you had several weeks on the IC. How long was it?
You and I will be running our 10Ks on the same day. I have to do mine really early as we have family coming that day for a few days so it’s my only chance! I really should organise my social diary better 🙄
I'm so far beyond relieved it's not true(though not yet at the 'taking anything for granted' stage😂 ).
I'm always tempted to run IP. But that's not a bad idea ... in fact I now realise I have an 8.5 or 9k run on my plan for Sunday, so if I start recording at my warm up walk and extend that a bit, then do my run, then continue walking ... why thank you, what a grand idea!!! Now to plan where. Didn't realise I could get more excited 😍🙃😍
You'll have to let me know what time you're setting out on Thursday ...
I love surprises, and will look forward to hearing more Irishprincess . I didn’t much enjoy the surprise of finding out I had Covid this time last week , but am pleased to say I am now negative and can get on with life in the real world again.
I understand it’s best to ease back gently so I hope to go for a short gentle run in the morning to see how I get on. 10k racing at Netley might be too much but I’ll go along with UpTheStanley and maybe run/ walk a few laps, even if I don’t finish. They won’t even let you use bone conduction ear phones so no music or CB commentary available to keep me going. It looks like it will be a cool sunny day, so perfect conditions.
Sorry to hear you had the dreadful Covid monster! It is still lurking...glad top, that you are feeling much better. You are right to take it gently... the virus is a nasty one and does, impact, despite the fact that some folk are making very light of it.
Enjoy the 10K ... a walk/run here and there can be really enjoyable. especially in a beautiful location an on a dry, but not too warm day Sending hugs xxx
There’s still a lot of Covid going around. We have four neighbours with it at the minute so I’m staying well away from them. But it’s good news that you're testing negative. Hope it didn't affect you too badly and that your run this morning goes well 🤞
(love the fresh green of the trees in the picture - spring is gorgeous)
An opportunity to fit in a 10k this weekend before an enforced break from running. The event is the Cookridge 10k in north Leeds with woodland, parks and lakes (even encompassing the National Plant Collections for Lilacs, Hostas and Ditch Lilies - who knew!) . I'm far from prepared for 10k but will be sooo happy to be out there with a few running buddies. At the moment the forecast looks fair so hoping for a nice trundle round.
The past few weeks have been varied with a lot of travelling. There's been some cool parkruns / freedom runs in Nordic area - and it's lovely to be at events where attendance is on the low side and it's easy to chat to people (my home parkrun is 700+ and feels much too crowded for comfort). I'll be parkrun volunteering for a few weeks after this weekend however so that'll feel good.
that'll be nice but no worries if I'm not added ... I'm only a occasional contributor here (I feel a bit a of a fraud posting ... but I like hanging out with the cool gang 😀)
