Happy Monday folks!! 🤣 If that isn't the biggest oxymoron going! I ran my slowest pre- work run this morning, so tired after a busy, action packed weekend! Every run counts though! 👍🏻😁
Tell us how your running is going. Are you training for something or just running free and doing your own thing? Maybe you’re not running at the minute at all ☹️ in which case you can tell us what you’re doing instead.
Whatever you’re up to, we’d love to hear about it. Whether you’re new to this forum and would like to say hello or whether you’ve been here for a while, grab a tea/coffee/whatever and spend a little time sharing your news.
But whatever you’re doing, have a great week everyone!

🥳 If you have a race coming up in May then let us know and we can give you a pom pom send-off:
I had one of those runs this morning too but a run is a run 😍 I never drink enough water on a Sunday.
I’ve done 133.3 miles this month so I’m back on track for my annual distance goal of 2022km. I’ve done nothing over 10miles for awhile so should probably run a HM soon & see if my new base of 50k weekly makes it easier (or harder 🤣)
We went trail running on Friday which was glorious. No one apart from hubby & some Kangaroos in a nearby field.
Happy week everyone ❤️🏃♀️🏃🏻♂️
Watching the funny trail runners from a distance🦘🦘
Lovely photo. Don't you just want to run through all that glow? 😍
Well, I’m back to running continuously for 20 minutes! Yeah! I’m happy especially as there has been no residual ache from my back so all is good. I’ll do another couple of 20 minute runs before I start to build up.
A fab sports massage on my back last Monday really loosened everything up and magically took away a few niggles instantly. I’m going to have a regular session with her now.
I just have to avoid doing too much work in the garden. And typically for the first time I agreed (before I got injured) to open my garden this year for our village open garden day and I am just looking at all the weeds that I daren’t deal with! So, in order to distract from the weeds I’m making a fairy garden and having a ball. Have just made these fairy toadstools 🧚🍄
It is a talent in itself. I used to say “that’s the spot”…and the answer was “it’s ok, I can feel it”. I just stay quiet now…apart from the screams of course!
Thanks MissW 🙂 Despite the fact I’ve not been able to do much at all in the garden over the last few months, it’s looking really well! I just need to do the edges…..
Those toadstools look lovely IP. It’s great to hear your back is on the mend. I used to go to an amazing sports massage therapist in Bahrain. She was truly amazing and I’ve really struggled to find anyone here as good so well done on finding yours.Good luck with the garden and well done for resisting the temptation to weed it.
Thanks Brian! I’ve had a lot of fun making the Fairy Garden 🤗
A great sports massage therapist is priceless. I had a brilliant one a few years ago and then she left the practice and area ☹️ And the next few who replaced her were ok but nowhere near the first one. Then I found this lady!! Thank goodness 😍
Hi Jo Jo. Really slow runs are good in my book…..provided they are part of a balanced diet of course. I had a dilemma this morning. Should I go for a repeat of last Monday’s first in x months 10k trail run, and try for a better time, or should I drop back to 8k, but throw some road running and a hill into the mix. In the end I thought that option 2 was likely to prove a better investment….so off I went. The road/ rough track/ hill part covered the first 2.5k. It felt like hard work, and then the rain started! I descended onto my familiar trail and finished the run with intermittent “refreshment” from the sky. When I checked my time I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had run a bit less slow than on my previous 8k. So, all in all, a success…with flat white and triple chocolate brownie to replace some of the 600 calories consumed on the run. I interrupted my walk home to run up another hill ….just ‘cos I can! Happy running week everyone.
Voluntary extra curricula hills too BC? Someone’s enjoying their running. 😀
Are you following a plan to reach GSR distance? I expect I’ll re-re-revisit the NRC HM plan and lop it short at 10 miles. After all, Coach Bennett needs my apology for going off in a huff when the Bath Half plans went belly up. 🙏🏻😩
I don’t know how well this screen shot will show up CC, the app seems to have cropped it, but it shows minimal running up to the last week in June 2021, a big, probably unwise, effort to get to the GNR in September, and precious little running since then, until this month. So, last week, I downloaded roseabi’s relaxed HM plan which hits 10 miles after about 8 weeks, starting at 10/12 k. I think that I am “pre-plan” at present, and need to get some miles, and hills, into my legs before flipping over onto the programme. I will review things in the first week in July. In the meantime, consolidating the progress I have made seems sensible. Everything seems good at present; shame to spoil it! Ah….I needed to tap the magnifying glass to show the table properly 🙄
Ahh yes, it did show up. Interesting to see. I’m pre-plan too, but I don’t want to just bimble about until it starts so I’m picking an NRC run each time which keeps me accountable. Once this cold has gone I’ll head for some hills too. 😀
If I repeat my May mileage in June, or maybe a touch more as Scilly seems to bring out the best in me, that might be about right. Hope your cold clears up/off soon Cheeky.
It is but your relatives start heaping chores onto you so learn to say “no” 🙂. My helping out has got so onerous that it interferes with the things I want to do. I could kick myself for being such a walk-over 😖
I have learned to say that “I can’t keep doing this” although close family is exempt. We all need me time…if I can’t find that at 70 years old, when will I? Obviously providing a supply of fresh caught rainbow trout is ok 😋
I’ve had an odd week running-wise. I did a beach run last week in Cornwall, along with several walks including dunes. Holy mackerel. 🥵 🥵
Then I took my weary legs back home for some gym running, and PR on Saturday in which I realised the cold I’m harbouring really was affecting me.
So I’m taking it easy this week and will keep it all super gentle. I don’t have any imminent races, but there’s a cluster of 10ks later in the summer, plus the GSR. I’m definitely missing my HM fix, but I’m not the sort of runner to do one for fun. I need a race, but it’ll need to wait for next spring now. But which one? It needs to be mainly flat. Any recommendations anyone? 😀
It certainly is! We started with the tide being far enough out to be able to run on lovely compacted sand, but by the time we’d done a couple of kms, the sea was forcing us onto the softer stuff. 🥵🥵🥵 So much fun, but wow I’m in awe of people who run on the beach regularly. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hello GoGo_JoJo its been a while since I've been on this forum (have lurked from time to time) Its been a year since I ran 10 miles and after a year of what seemed like just aimless plodding and inspired by all the icons on Strava and here, thought I'd join in the fun and ran the Virtual Vitality 10000k this month, (thanks also to ju-ju- again for your fab plan) It was great getting back to that distance and I want to keep it up, so looked and have found a beginners' HM plan to get me back to 10 miles, 3 weeks of training completed now and I'm loving it, so thought I might have a go at an HM and where better to come for support and advice than here 😊
Good to see you around, lurking is always allowed. Sometimes we are just a bit quieter.
That's great that you found a new goal. Yes it can slip into plodding although there's nothing wrong with aimless if that's what suits, at least you kept moving! 😁👍🏻 life and other time pressures can easily get in the way of this running lark!
I'm sure you'll be back at 10 in no time. At least you already know you CAN do it, you just need to get that stamina back up to scratch! 😎
Still running despite irritating knee thing. Physio appointment in three weeks. I think it’s getting better though. I’ve got a 5k race booked with my niece but she’s injured again so we’ll be coasting 🏃♀️🏃♀️ I’m looking forward to it as it mean’s a weekend away in a hotel. The race starts immediately outside the hotel doors. If I can get in that is 🤞
Hello what a great post, I’m on week 2 of the NRC half marathon plan and for the first time in months am having the time of my life, I always read these Chat posts but don’t reply as I’m not a long distance runner but now working towards being that person who runs further and further
Hi Jo I’ve been nursing two injuries recently which are hindering my training progress. I think I’m managing them both fairly well and I feel good at the moment.
My latest run at the Sussex Vets League last Monday was good considering the injuries, and I’m hoping to run at the Surrey, Sussex and London Championships this Sunday in Kingston. I’m entered for the 100 and 200.
I would really love to be among the medals as I haven’t got an athletics one yet. 😅😂 It’s a really tough ask as some of the very best are in attendance prior to the British Championships on the 11th June but I do like to set my sights high. 😃
Not much running for me this week, what with examiner duties and thunderstorms. Last run was in searing temperatures on Monday, 6.2km on roads and trails with 226m elevation gain. Hoping to run later today if storms stay away.
Happy running, all!
Update: so I ran. A mere 3km as at 31° it was even hotter than Monday and I stupidly went out fast by my standards. There again temps reached 38° mid-afternoon and now, just after 6pm, it looks like the storms are about to hit. Must go and get the washing in!
That's pretty hot, and with storms around probably awfully humid too. I can deal with heat but humidity is a killer. Rain headed our way now sadly, I was looking forward to a nice weekend! 🙈🤣
Hope you rescued the washing and you get a break from storms for a good run! 🤞🏻🤞🏻😁
