A British runner has made history by becoming the first woman to finish one of the world's hardest ultramarathons.
Jasmin Paris from Midlothian completed the Barkley Marathons in Tennessee with just one minute 39 seconds to spare of the 60-hour cut off.

Massive respect for any participant in what I think is generally accepted as the toughest ultra there is.

It was so nerve-wracking, refreshing X (Twitter) to find out if she had made it! So awe-inspiring & unbelievable what the human body is capable of ……. not this one though 😆

Just astounding! Incredible that people put their bodies through that when the risk of not completing, on time or otherwise, is so high! Particularly when there is an element of hide and seek thrown in with the book pages thing. 👏👏👏👏🏆
I’ve just had a friend text me about this and calling her “a daft woman” and I felt I had to defend Jasmine by saying what an epic achievement it is 💪
Epic just about covers it; determination, courage, athleticism, fitness and intelligence.
That comment is like the person who asked me why didn’t I walk or ride a bike🙄….now, they were being daft!….
I was a bit surprised about her comment because she use to be a runner and so knows how hard it can be.
Maybe an off day!!🙂
Daft woman? It's not as though Dr Jasmin Paris, the first woman to finish the Barkley Marathons, is also a Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, as well as being a mother of two, is it? Oh wait. 🤐
Far from daft, but there's something verging on the masochistic in anyone who applies to compete in one of Lazarus Lake's oddball events (Barkley Marathons, Big's Backyard Ultra).

Just think though if humankind had never pushed the boundaries of what’s possible 🙂 I think they’re compelled to run these things just to see if they can. It’s what drives people 🙂
I was listening to the completely fabulous Joan Benoit-Samuelson as I bimbled about the trail recently, who was talking about the woman who inspired her. Women running today have some great inspiration. Even those of us who just want to run for fun 🙂

I remember watching the Nikki Spinks video online where she was in her farm kitchen with the maps of the Barkley laid out on the table. Imagine getting your head round the logistics of that little lot 😳😵💫
Once they get there the logistics just get worse, and they do it for FUN. It just shows what impossible feats folks are capable of 👊✊
My brother sent that story on to my during the weekend. Very interesting read and unique in many ways. Fair play to her (and anyone else who competes in it as well).
