Good morning lovely VRBs!!! As we head into the first weekend of the year, letβs start the 2024 racing year in style; please shake out your pompoms and cheer as only you know how, to send a massive wave of HU support to two of our amazing VRBs.
At the time of writing we have details of just one racer this weekend:
βοΈOn Sunday, the marvellous Β Mudita11 will be tacklingThe Stubbington 10k, promising a picturesque and flat course this should be a splendid start to your racing year Mudita. Hope you have a wonderful time - do post a race report if you get the chance.
If weβve missed anyone with an event in the next week then do let us know asap.
We also have some important news to share with you:
π’The brilliant Β Beachcomber66 has agreed to join the admin team of this forum.
Most of you will already 'know' BC as he's a regular contributor to our forum.
BC has been a VRB for well over five years now. Joining HU in mid 2018, he embarked on the C25K program and soon progressed over the Bridge to 10k. He then joined us and went on to run the GSR 10 miles in 2022 and ran all the way to a half marathon badge too!
In his time with HU, BC has been the author of almost 200 posts (199 to be exact - we look forward to the 200th BC π ) and approaching 6000 supportive, informative and humorous replies!
I'm sure you will join Β Irishprincess and I in welcoming him to the team with a vigorous wave of your pompoms and a very loud cheer!
Good luck to you both Mudita and Beachcomber, and be sure to enjoy yourselves π
We hope all our VRBs have had a good start to 2024; however it has begun for you, we're sure there's plenty to look forward to yet! Have a great week everyone.
The Team xxx

CONGRATULATIONS THE LEGEND THAT IS Beachcomber66 I had the absolute pleasure of meeting him with my gorgeous Tasha99 and he's so lovely. What a brilliant addition to an amazing team. Best wishes BC and this year we're definitely coming to see you for a run πββοΈ β€
Thanks GTFC π. I am still in training mode with much to learn of course. I have made a resolution to do some park runs this year ( getting out of bed early enough is the main problem!) so no doubt we will meet up. Look forward to it.π
Been throwing it down and itβs pretty chilly up here! I hope that I can get in a 5k in the morning; the trails are really boggy. Then off to the footy, against Villa.
I booked it around 16 October on a β maybe I will be able to do it next yearβ basisβ¦and all the excitement around the squad! FOMO probably kicked in! I remember typing something like βI may have just booked itβ¦.β in a post, but it could have been lost as part of a long multi person GSR post. Anyway, no matter, yes I have booked my place. Next step is to book an hotelβ¦but I definitely want to run it this year. Last time was amazing, and you and UTS were truly fabulous hosts. Great if we can all run this time π.
Good luck on Sunday Mudita11 ππ€and that is wonderful news about Beachcomber66 ! I know you will be a great addition to the lovely admin team! Enjoy!π
I am planning to be at the match tomorrow Tasha. π€
It was after running a Park Run with you that I went from 35 mins/k to 28 mins 17seconds (all park runs). I still havenβt forgotten you and your mate sneaking up to overtake me on the line! Unfinished business there π
Wow, West Country pom poms flapping wildly for you Mudita11 ππππ Go get it!
And well, what can I say about Beachcomber66 ? I couldnβt think of anyone better to join the admin team. A superstar, and a sensible one too. Weβre not worthy of such greatness! π
πππ thanks cheeky, you are a star!! Looking forward to reading about your rediscovered mojoβ¦.once the ground dries up a bit! There are water jumps all over the trails up here, and even if you clear them there is lots of mud to land in. I am sure it will be worse in the South West?
Itβs returning by degrees BC π Iβm having fun revisiting C25K actually, and tomorrow Iβll be having a retro W1R3 run at Eastville PR with Flossie! π₯° My cough has made it hard to run properly (and the pants weather of course), so baby steps for me, to make it fun again. And it is. πππ
Good to hear cheeky. Letβs hope your cough gives up and moves on. We need our main cheer leader back on song (I noticed the lost voice; awful thing to happen at concert time !)
I always got bad asthma at Christmas time, until we discovered that real Christmas trees were the problem. Weird I knowβ¦.but then, so am I!
I am definitely looking at some Park Runs in 2024 and I have been spending most of my time on runs <10k to try to recover a bit of pace. I really like long runs, but they were becoming a bit too ploddy. I want to do a HM pb this year; all three of mine have been blighted in one way or another; so unfinished business there.
Hoping you have a healthy 2024, starting from β¦now!!
Aaah Stubbington, a very popular race Mudita11 . Around 40 from our club going including Kenny. Sorry I won't be there to cheer you on, good luck!!!!! π
That's great news that the lovely Beachcomber66 is joining the admin group ! Always supportive and encouraging. π xxx
Thank you everyone for your lovely words. Iβve got a stinker of a cold π so I donβt think Iβll be getting any PBs but nevertheless looking forward to the race. Beachcomber66 what a fantastic choice! I always love the way you write so am looking forward to reading more!! Congratulations. See you at the GSR π
Just go out there and enjoy the view Mudita; be nice to yourself and simply enjoy the atmosphere. It's far too early in the year to be laying down PBs π
Good luck Mudita11 in your 10k. Iβm sure youβll have a great time and I hope the weather is kind to you.
Beachcomber66 is a truly inspired choice for admin. With his positivity, humbleness and genuine good-bloke attitude to everyone on here, Iβm sure heβll do a fab job. Good luck BC π
Good luck Mudita11 β¦Pom poms enthusiastically waving here!
Super pleased youβve joined the admin team Beachcomber66 ! Youβll do a fantastic job! Pom poms waving for you too on this new starting line for you! πββοΈππ
vigorously waving my Pom Poms for both Mudita and BC good luck to you Mudita and have a great race and Beachcomber66 wishing you lots of fun in your new role. You will be amazingπππππππππββοΈπββοΈ
Really kind Folkylass π! Lots of excellent work from you on Bridge to 10 tooβ¦..like you, I am hoping for dry weatherβ¦.the trails are like mush up here!
Thanks BC that so kind too and Happy New Year π The weather is lovely and dry today and apparently tomorrow itβs going to be just the same so Iβm out tomorrow morning.πββοΈπ.
Iβll be hoping for Boro - my Dad used to follow them! He was a Tynesider who had an affinity with Teesside too so I always keep an eye on how theyβre doing.
