Have to say I was a bit nervous about this race, given my runs over the last few months have been just awful and Ive just wanted them over. However, today I was determined to just enjoy it and not worry about my time. I haven't done Sandringham before, but was told what a beautiful route it is, and it certainly didn't disappoint. It was a bit cold to start and it had rained over night, so I decided on trail shoes, which were definately the right choice.
The pleasant surprise was no heavy legs and although my time was still much slower than my normal pace, I didnt feel so exhausted after the first couple of kms. Been taking some Korean ginseng which seems to be slightly helping the daily fatigue.
Lovely route, really nice mixture of trail, through the woods and some paths round the grounds. When we ran past Sandringham House, a lot of people stopped to take pictures and because the flag was flying, we didn't know if that meant some royals were there or not, ( looking at google afterwards it appears the flag is flown when the royals are NOT there unfortunately).
Didnt take any water with me, thought if I needed it, I would take half a cup of water from the drink station at halfway and have a couple of sips. That's what I tried to do, but actually most of it went all over me, which was quite funny π, and even more so, when I looked around and saw everyone else also either missing their mouth or just attempting to drink and accepting that most of it wouldn't reach their mouth!! They also had a couple plates of jelly beans so did take a couple of beans for the last couple of kms.
I always find ithat as soon as I can see the finish line I get an amazing boost of energy, and so I just went for it over the last 100metres. Finishing time 58.47, not my quickest at all, but, I enjoyed it today and that was more important!π

Thank you, yes I was surprised how much I enjoyed it today. Just lately I wondered if Id fallen out of love with running, but today made me realise, apparently not!π
So much more important to enjoy it, I learned the hard way with drinks, I don't like to have to suck a sports bottle.....my bottle with an open top goes everywhere even with me walking π.The royals should have been there to cheer you on but hey, we were pom pom waving.....and what a time to call it not as quick as usual, awesome π ππ
Congratulations Hedgehogs123 that sounds like a great one to do and all the better for taking the pressure off, still a fantastic time too! ππββοΈx
Thanks Linda, no where near the time we did at Lincoln, but I knew I wouldn't get anywhere near that time and so just wanted to enjoy it. It was funny trying to drink half a cup of water while running!ππ
Thank you, yes it was my first time and I'll definately do again next year. Really lovely route and who needs the royals when I have my own VRB's as cheerleaders!!
Lovely big medal and the goody bag was really good quality, chocolate, water, Red bull, crisps, chocolate flapjack, all very nice , although could have done with the red bull before we started!!ππ
aww thank you, I just decided to try and enjoy it and take in the beautiful scenery rather than focus on time, infact I didn't look at my watch until I got over the finish line, so was quite pleased with my time. The medal is huge and the goody bag was brilliant, so many things in it!!
By the way I've submitted my Vitality results using the same email address as you and they've replied to say they have accepted them tonight. Looking forward to the medal and tee shirt now!π x
Sometimes itβs just great isnβt not be bogged down by time and just enjoy all the wonderful things around you and itβs always a great surprise when you eventually look at the time and find youβve done better that you thought. Good for you!π.
Iβm so pleased that you have had acknowledgement about your Vitality results and thanks for letting me know. π₯°π₯°x
