Grand day out by the seaside. Not! π I ran quite a disappointing race, and was only just over a minute faster than last year when I was poorly π
However, I really enjoyed it in a masochist kind of way. This route seems interminable, and the finish line seemed never to arrive, so i just dug in and kept going. I do love the route though. Itβs a barren, windswept seascape on part of the return leg and tough on the feet and legs. Itβs single file too as runners sensibly stuck to the well-trodden narrow path. I fell in behind a bloke for protection from the wind π. I had to keep looking down at my feet but I ran in his footsteps for quite a while which was good πββοΈ The beach and dunes part is hard work at that late stage of the race but there was music and lots of support. It was designated SMILE zone πππ. The long slog to the seafront was helped by a drumming group, banging out a beat for tired legs to latch onto. Another short stretch of very slippery, dry sand, to get back onto the prom. The finish was near the very end of the prom, and on already tired legs, I was cursing the cruelty of the organisers for prolonging the agony π«π€π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬.
my husband was trying to film my finish, but an official made him move so he could exit the course via the spectator barrier. So it was a damp squib at the end but all was forgiven when someone handed me a doughnut ππ©π. OMG a doughnut never tasted so good π€€ π
My ankle was throbbing by this time but I hobbled off to find a cafe, then back to the car for the drive home. I made dinner when I got home as I craved something wholesome. I made a vat of veg chilli πΆ with melted cheese and a fried egg on top π³ Bloomin lush ππ
Iβm suffering with my ankle today (swollen, tender Achilles π«€) so no running but Iβm going to keep moving. I spent time in the kitchen yesterday making bread, and a dinner of fish, chips and peas as I missed out at the seaside π
