4 Days Late …. but right on the money

I wanted to do a 10k run over the weekend with(virtually)  cheekychipmunks and  over61andstilltrying . Ice and snow got in the way. I managed a 5k on Monday, which I enjoyed but I was still mildly niggled by the thought of incomplete business.

Today I decided to invite Coach Bennett on a 10k. It was on the cold side, and raining, but not enough to make me call it off. My plan was to take it easy, forget about monitoring pace and time, and see what happened. I threw in a hill after 1.5k, which meant an 80m elevation gain overall, just to make me work a bit. I hardly looked at my watch. I just ran at a pace which felt really comfortable and one thing CB did do was to get me to concentrate on my breathing early on. I did as I was told, and even slowed down in the penultimate 2k as instructed. It all felt really comfortable and Garmin said my overall pace was 7:02, and that was backed up by NRC. If I had been managing my pace by checking my watch as I went along, 7:00/k would have been my target, so I am feeling pretty pleased with myself for getting that close running by feel. Overall run time 1:10:23…a nice steady 10k as ordered…..followed by flat white of course.🙂

Brilliant  Beachcomber66 , I’m really pleased that you enjoyed Coach Bennett’s company today. That’s a lovely pace too.

I’ve been too busy to get out running this week , and it has to be said the rain did not appeal, but I do g hope to get out to parkrun in my antlers on Saturday.

Merry Christmas to you and Mrs BC

If I were to wear antlers up in the forest there would be an outside chance of being shot by a short sighted poacher 🙂.

Our youngest will be with us Christmas Day and part of Boxing Day…then straight back to work for him; post Christmas is a busy time.

Merry Christmas to you and UTS; I am so pleased that I finally got to meet the crazy gang in 2022. 🛀

🦌🏃‍♀️ yes that’s a bit less likely on the prom.

Great that you are seeing your son for Christmas, but like you say, lots of sport going on straight after.

Yes so good to meet you too.

That sounds perfect, I took Coach on a 10k once and he left me to it and didn't say a word, I'll have to try again one day. Good pace too, I'd love to run that fast

I think that this is a relatively new run Sola; he had plenty to say!

I think that he helped me through the run by encouraging me to keep the pace down and getting me to focus on breath control. Worth a try. It was labelled 10k Run a comfortable and fun 10k, as opposed to the Headspace 10k.

I think there a very small number of runs that don’t work properly. I started a 20k one with him saying nothing and then stopped, loaded up a different version of a 20k run and he was chatting away. Sounds like you had a duffer.

It was fine, I still ran 10k that day 😃 and I've enjoyed all the other guided runs, I get all excited when I start a run

Good for you BC. A lovely 10k, and now you can relax and enjoy Christmas guilt free. Hope you all have a wonderful time. 🎄😀

I’m parkrunning on Saturday, but not Christmas Day even though there are several on round here. I know what Santa has bought for me, so I can’t wait to have a go with it, maybe on Boxing Day. 🤶🎄🙏🏻

Sounds just what the doctor ordered BC - or in your case the physio! I had a very pleasant 10k on Tuesday - back to an old route with some ups and downs, so was pleased with a 6.37 pace.

I managed a 6:43 pace 10k in the build up to GSR; probably the cause of the calf injury!! Well done on Tuesday’s run.👏👏👏

Thanks BC - I have a bit of a niggle at the front of my ankle now so think I'd better ease off for a while

Sounds like a great run BC. At your happy pace, no pressure 😊 I had good intentions this morning, put on my running kit when I got up (running club Xmas social tonight, rather than a run!) and sat around waiting for the rain to stop. It didn’t, so at 1.30 I got changed 😂😂

It was lovely to finally meet you this year. Wishing you, Mrs BC and the BC family, including the gorgeous Molly, a very happy Christmas xx

Thank you Sandie. I hope that you and Mr S have a great Christmas. I really enjoyed Portsmouth. I have sneaked my medal into a prominent place amongst the decorations ….just in case anyone wants to talk about it 😂.

Your run will wait. 🙂

I’ve heard about these virtual coaches but have no idea where to find them. Can anyone shed any light?

Nike Run Club

Yes, Nike Run Club down loaded onto your phone as Sandie says. You can choose to play your music alongside running the app if you like. I don’t do that, and I only use NRC occasionally when the mood takes me. Worth a try to see if it suits you.

Hi Frenc…..nothing like a 10k to make room for a flat white and brownie…or toasted cinnamon tea-cake which has appeared for the festive season!! Have a great Christmas 🎅😀

well done! 🙂👍☕️

I ran to collect a parcel last night and was packing a Coach Bennett guided run, previously downloaded and ready to go. Except it didn’t. Technical hitch 🤷‍♀️And I couldn’t be bothered to faff with it as it was wet and a tad windy

Has anyone else received a £20 NRC voucher off the app and managed to redeem it?

I got a voucher today. Haven’t tried redeeming yet but I love the Pegasus trail trainers and I think I’m due a new pair (if Santa doesn’t bring me some!!)

I redeemed my voucher today 🤗🏃‍♀️

Beachcomber66 profile image

No voucher 🤷🏻‍♂️. My only NRC failures involve my muck ups…forgetting my headphones and that sort of thing 🙄

I SUCCESSFULLY redeemed the voucher today! Result 😀👍🏃‍♀️ A fleece lined long sleeved quarter zip top. Free delivery. Job’s a good un 🙂
