So I got some new trainer's from my local running shop last Friday.. they didn't have my usual Brooks in stock, so I settled on ASICS gel Cumulus 23, they felt comfortable in store and ran a 5K test run on the Saturday, they felt fine,
Great I thought.. so Monday I ran a 12K and by the 7th K I had to take the right trainer off for a bit as my sole was feeling numb.. carried on through to 12K taking it off once again π
I thought I might just have to settle into them, but today's run was a 10 Mile..
Again after 5K ,numb sole on my right foot.. had to stop every two K take shoe off..wiggle foot, run two K repeat..
Every other aspect of the run was fine
Question is.. is it the trainer's, needing more cushioning? Or could there be another reason?
I've messaged the shop for advice and awaiting their reply, but thought I'd ask here for opinions, to be a bit more prepared for their response π
Thanks π

Well done on your 10 miles! Thatβs fab. But how annoying about your feet going numb. I really am not an expert but perhaps the new shoes need to stretch a bit? They may be just a bit tight somewhere on your feet that isnβt noticeable when you put them on but is noticeable once your feet swell up a bit. Also remember you were probably really used to your old shoes. Iβve had to really experiment with how I lace my shoes so that may help? I need to wear my right shoe ever so loose. As I say, Iβm not an expert though and hopefully your shop will have some good advice and may even let you swap if need be.
But a fab 10 miles! I need to get one under my belt soon for our run next month πππ»ββοΈπ.
Thanks Frenc πYeah I'm hoping I just need to settle into them..but I have a nagging feeling it's more than that, I did loosen the laces as much as I could on the right foot but it didn't help atall π
My first thought was maybe you're lacing up too tightly but I've just seen your reply above. I've come across this website with a few suggestions: marathonhandbook.com/numb-f....
At least it's not stopping you from running but it must be so frustrating that this keeps happening. Hope you get it sorted out soon π€
Thanks so much for the helpful link Beatlesfoever π€I'm going to try the alternate lacing see if that might be the problem, the trainers don't seem tight atall and feel roomy enough in the toebox.. grrr frustrating ππ
Do you still have the old trainers? May be worth a long run in them to see if you experience the same issue now. If you don't then the new trainers clearly don't suit you, in which case hopefully the shop jas an answer or is prepared to change them. If you have the same problem ... well I'm not sure what that says!
Iβm quite sceptical about gait analysis as I didnβt have a great experience. Thankfully, I could donate my very expensive pair of runnerβs that were totally wrong for me to a small man childπ€£
Itβs good you have messaged the store as you havenβt had any problems in the past so it sounds like it is the shoe which isnβt right for you.
Thanks, still waiting for their reply, I know they can be very expensive and I'm not really eager to fork out for another new pair π but needs must.. πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπ€£
I had my gait analysis done at the same shop for my previous pair and had no issues.. π
I messaged them yesterday morning when I came in from my run, but they haven't replied yet! Hopefully they will today.. I'm going to try the lacing technique ,see if that helps π
Yeah, slacken them up from top to bottom. Keep your heel on the floor when you tie them up. Donβt over-tighten. See how you fair then ππββοΈπ. The heel on the floor thing was a Coach Bennett tip.
You run much longer routes than me, but just in case it helps, I had numb feet with new shoes until I relace them as per image. Now I only ever lace my shoes this way and have never again had any issues.
Just loosening laces didnβt work for me, I had to relace them as per image. From this site: runrepeat.com/top-10-runnin...
You probably have tried this already, but just thought Iβd mention it, just in case.
I usually buy Brooks and this time I got some Asics and they did feel tight at first (my normal size in shoes is 4 but I always order a 5 in Brooks, so did the same with these too)but now they have settled down really well and feel very supportive. I always have reflective elastic stretch laces in my running shoes which did help as they adapt as my feet needs the room, although I guess they dont suit everyone . Hope yours settle too . π
Thanks, I'm a 7 but bought an 8.. they don't feel tight atall, which is why it's strange, I will give them another couple of runs with different lacing and .. π€
