My first outdoor run of any kind since the Hackney Half last year and while it was heavy going on the legs and I Jeffed some of it, weirdly my time was only about 30 seconds slower than my personal best last year when I was training for the half marathon.
So it’s clear that my recent slimming down and HIT and weight training have made me faster. If I could have kept running the whole distance I would have been at least 5 minutes faster and maybe even 10 minutes. It’s quite extraordinary for me to realise that actually I’m getting closer to more respectable times.
Without getting carried away, I think if I continue to train and stay injury free, there’s no reason I can’t run a 70 minute 10K and if the NHS ever get around to repairing my double groin hernia, I might be able to get close to the 60 minute mark. Never thought I’d say that! The best thing today was no cramp either. No idea why except maybe I’m not training as much.
I’m in good spirits for the forthcoming torture of training up for another half marathon. But if today was anything to go by maybe it won’t be as torturous as last year. Can’t quite believe on my first outdoor run I’m close to my personal best. Not that difficult a time for some but very difficult for me, so I’m pretty chuffed. Let’s hope my niggles don’t derail me and the cramp stays away.
Looking forward to Sunday’s London 10K
